I have an Undercover tonneau cover that utilizes the side rails. So I'm thinking about just bolting something to the top of the bed sides. This is only to haul a kayak so not too much weight. And I'd unbolt them when not needed. They don't need to be adjustable either.

Any suggestions on how to fabricate this?

Picture is of Voodoo's racks. I wish I could use these but they require the side bed rails.

check out uptop. They have brackets that go under the cover and onto the bed rails.

I'm not sure I understand your product. There are options for racks that go under the cover and attach to the bed rails. But my tonneau utilizes those rails so I can't use one of those products. If your's are different, how?

not my product, a product. Your cover can’t be using the whole rail, just 4-6 bolts. You should still have a huge section of rail to bolt to. They make a z shaped bracket that slides under the cover.

If you want any product that bolts through the bed will work too just fine. Most people don’t want to put holes in the bed rails is all.

Thanks. Unfortunately, the cover I have uses the entire damn rail. It's not a great design but it's what I got.

damn! That is a terrible design. Mine only has two bolts on either side and two for the box.

well then, and drill through you like will work. You need long arms to get the nuts on, but it’s totally doable.

Wow, i've never seen one like that before. It looks like have a "hard" cover, could you bolt a rack directly to the cover?

Yeah, I need to figure out nutless options. I won't get my arm up there.

I had to do that for my headache bar. Harder than it should be with the plastic cover. I had to make a spacer so the tool could work.

I use a roof rack for my Kayaks, cant really think of any other way to mount a rack in that situation

Thanks. I think I have it figured out with the nutserts. I'll remove the plastic cover, install the nutsert, then reinstall the plastic cover and drill a hole into the nutsert. The bars will sit on top of the plastic cover. They can be removed and only a small hole in the plastic will be left behind.

Seems to work in my head. Now to execute it!!!
