I made the mistake of removing the stock license plate bulbs to install leds. Now bleeding from both hands and those bastards won’t go back in. The engineer that designed this setup should be euthanized, and his bloodline ended.

I stick my hands under the truck and push the tab and out pops the entire assembly but it’s a huge pain in the butt

This is the best way to do it, if you have a hitch then you pretty much need baby hands to change the bulbs.

LED license plate bulbs, why bother?

I don't need my license plate lit up like a billboard

Both of mine burned out and I replaced them with red LED bulbs. Not too bright but it was a pain in the butt.

Bought a “kit” that included them. I really only wanted the interior lights. Figured, how hard can it be?

It is not that I don’t understand how to replace the bulbs. My hands don’t fit. Even in the video the guy can only get the tips of his fingers on them. If you watch closely he does not get it twisted into holder.

That's the exact reason I changed mine, they came with the interior kit so I figured why not. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have given them a second thought.

Not street-legal in some jurisdictions, though enforcement depends on if your state has safety inspections.

In California, where I live its legal. The law states that you can only have red, white and amber lights on your vehicle. As long as the bulbs are operational and light up the plate, I'm good here. Elsewhere, I concede I don't know.

I have pretty big hands (no watch fits me without 2+ extra links) and I got it done. It was tough as shit though. Hope I never have to again.

Yep Cali is strict on emissions but lax on safety inspection. In Mass, for example, the annual inspection regs specifically require the license plate light(s) to be white.
