Looking for tires too. Nitto Terra Grappler, Toyo Open Country A/T II and Falken Wildpeak AT3 seem to be the favorites. KO2 are out at another $100/tire. Since I have to get tires I'm also thinking about getting wheels in black or maybe something bold like bronze or copper because my Inferno is too lowkey as it is.

Anybody have any good suggestions for 265/70r16 rims under $200/wheel?

I’d go with some blemished SCS wheels, you could get the SR8 matte bronze In 17 inch.

more C load tire choices in 17 inch, lighter weight 6 ply.

I'm very happy with my new toyo at3 and it looks plenty aggressive to me...no less than the bfg in my opinion.

I have the ATX in 265/70r17 and love them. Have about 10k miles on them so far but used to run the previous AT2 on my last Tacoma and they were a great tire as well.

Looks really good and nice choice on the size. I went with 265/70/17 C-Rated and they looked good while my truck was on stock suspension...now that I have a lift they look too small and wish I had gone with the 275's.

I’m loving the Nitto Ridge grapplers. SL side wall and drives like stock.

I've ran most of the tires you've mentioned...I keep coming back to the tried and true BFGs. Yes, the KO2s don't do as great in the snow, and being in Utah we get our fair share of snow. However, I've never had any problem with getting stuck or sliding around. I wouldn't touch the Falkens with a 10' pole. They are a cheap tire...both in cost and quality. Many on this site do seem to have a fascination with them, the only thing I can fathom is because they're one of the cheapest tires??? I don't mind the Coopers, Duratracs are close behind them, but I like the BFGs the best. I haven't ran the Generals, and I've been tempted to try the red walls, but don't know if I actually ever will.

Another vote for ST Maxx. I agree that tread life seems a bit shorter so far, but great tires. Probably move to the STT Pro next for additional mud traction, especially if they decide to make a 255 series. I have run KO2 in the past and found them to be WAY overrated. Wet traction was terrible, they packed with thick mud immediately (which is almost all off road here), and they packed with wet snow in spite of having the snowflake. The Maxx isn't any worse in snow and better in all other areas except maybe tread life. The Maxx be louder, but the KO2s did get louder as they wore. I have a set of the Milestar Patagonia MTs in 285s sitting in my garage. They were bought for my Bronco project, but they may get tested on the Tacoma as I think I am going 35s or 37s on the Bronco.

Did you have bad experiences with the Falkens? All my buddies who run them love them just as much as I do.

Just look around without blinders on, they have non-stop quality issues. Won't balance, won't stay balanced, odd wear patterns, etc. I had similar issues and despite getting them replaced under warranty several times, I had the same issues over and over...finally got a credit on them (after the shop saying they've had non-stop issues with them) and moved on to something else. I've never had a tire that was as poor as the Falkens...including the Nittos which weren't great but no where near as poor as the Falkens.

I've had the falken wildpeaks for over 60,000 miles and they are still at 5 and 6 tread left. They have only just started making a little noise. Nothing a little radio can't hide. I commute 100 miles every day for work. Very curvy back roads and long interstate highways. I've been in mud up to the top of my fender wells and on trails with basket ball sized sharp rocks. I've never had a better tire for wet payment. (Toyo at2 were terrible on wet payment just as a side note) I've driven in snow but no more than a couple inches and ive had them aired down on sand bars. I can not recommend the wildpeaks enough. A perfect tire in my opinion.

It's funny how extreme some people's opinions tend to be. Everything is either the best tire ever created, or absolute garbage.

I've heard terrible things about KO2's, yet I just put 29K miles on a set with no issues. I rotate every oil change. They were fantastic in almost every scenario. They could have been better in snow and hydroplaning resistance. I replaced them because I wanted to go bigger. They all still measure 12/32 of tread remaining, so 80% of the original depth. I sold them to a friend.

I know a bunch of guys running Wildpeak AT3W's, and not one has anything negative to say.

I almost jumped on the bandwagon, but I wanted to try the new Toyo AT3's. So far I am completely satisfied.

The A/T market is so competitive now. There are numerous excellent options. They all have strengths and weaknesses.
