Dash Cam suggestions

I simply ran the wire down along the A pilar, then with an add a fuse to a switched on power supply. Turns on when I start the truck. Video is excellent.

I did the exact same with the V1-LG (with rear facing camera). Works great. I like the software that came with it as well.

 

I have a 64GB card in my Garmin mini. Surprising how fast it fills up and overwrites the old stuff. Once the novelty wears off that camera just records away and I never notice it.

 

Pruveeo D30H, it’s a cheaper camera but works well and I liked how the body mounts parallel with the windshield.

 

My wife asked me about that this morning. I pointed out that in the case of an accident, I'd only have to go back a minute or so. I'd just have to remember to download the video to my phone before it over wrote the memory card.

 

My Vava I posted higher has a special folder on the card it uses for videos it detects an accident in and actually locks the files. In my case, the incident video started at the point of impact though which isn't the best option I feel.

 

I use a

$16 SanDisk 128GB High Endurance Video MicroSDXC Card with Adapter for Dash Cam and Home Monitoring systems - C10, U3, V30, 4K UHD, Micro SD Card - SDSQQNR-128G-GN6IA

Sandisk 128GB card on my Garmin 56. I use the 1440p resolution on the camera and the video file size is 220MB per minute. Approx 4.5 minutes per GB, or a bit more than 9.6 hours to fill the card.

 

Does anyone know which fuse powers the mirror? I haven't had a chance to mount the camera or plug in the DonGar adapter, but would like to know were to look just in case.

 

I installed the DonGar and Dash Cam Mini today. Not including cleaning all of the windows just because, it took about five minutes to install. I plugged the mirror power cable into the DonGar and then tested the camera without the mirror attached. Perfect. Then plugged the cable into the mirror and tested again. Still fine. Attached the camera to the windshield, adjusted it, and went for a short test drive.

Not that I would recommend doing it on a regular basis, but the image on the phone screen was crisp, with a wide angle. A minor adjustment to angle of the camera and done.

Hopefully I won't need it, but it's nice to have.

 

When i first saw it I thought pretty neat product. Then I read some reviews where it got so hot it started melting. I saw that 3 or 4 times. Too many for me.

 

this has been talked about here and what's been mentioned was that it was an older version of the dongar adapter that had issues. i have the new version dongar plugged into the back of my mirror along with the garmin mini dash cam and have had zero issues...

 

I have the new Dongar harness as well. Got it from the Dongar website. No issues.

 

Any recommendations for 110+ degree weather during summer times? I have the owl cam at the moment and its nice to live view once in a while but dont use it as often, and the stickyness of the holder is unreliable

It should work with any USB powered dash cam.

 

I was looking at this camera too. Let me know how your install goes, I wanted to use my gopro mount as well.

 

The camera works great. I had come up with a custom mounting scheme to use the truck's GoPro mount, but since then this mount has become available. The mount in the video will cost you only about half of what my custom configuration costs.

 

I like the ones that are built into the rear mirror. Like KDLinks. But there's other brands that have higher definition ones now I think. Plus, since we own pickups (esp. the long beds among us) the highest definition you can get for a rear dashcam is needed to have a chance at making out the license plate of any hit & runners.

 

Can anyone show me or detail their REAR facing camera setup. Ideally since I’d have a Snugtop, I’m looking for a secondary camera that is attached near the back cam window so it captures the rear bed. Rexing or kingslim D4 looks like
The option I’m looking for. More expensive is the blackvue DR590 2 channel ( but I hear with blackvue you need the external battery pack that sits under the driver seat for motion detection when the car is in park mode). Seems like the cheaper options don’t need a battery back for park mode? Cheers. Really helpful thread so far

 

Vantrue and viofo look amazing too. These work well with motion detection at night and park mode, no external battery pack needed?
