We recently bought a 2020 Armada that has remote start. After starting the vehicle remotely, if you get in and put it in Drive the engine kills.
But after starting remotely, if you get in and step on the brake and press the Start button the vehicle will remain running when you put it in Drive.

Just adding to the CCW conversation, but I prefer to just keep my gun on me at all times. I carry appendix in an T1C Axis Elite and for me and the situations I can see happening this is best. My draw stays the same, if I need to exit the vehicle I can do so quickly, and it’s always concealed just to name a few reasons.

Yeah, but I recall something similar from my last truck too. Basically it's either on the inside or the outside of the frame and either way, there's potential to be hit. (Not referring to running it through the frame, just on the "inside" from the location you've shown.)

Yeah, I'm not sure why it can't just function like the keyed version. You get in and step on the brakes without a key detected and it kills the engine. That way I can still let the truck warm up while I'm loading items inside it.

You can start it, than lock the door with the key that is hidden inside your key fob.

That's good for one door. 3 left. Although I haven't tried with the door buttons. I'll try it now and report back.

Edit: tried it, but the truck keeps unlocking itself again any time you hit lock.

Interesting, mine locks all doors with the key. Maybe because I changed my settings for when I push unlock on my key fob, one push unlocks all doors instead of just the drivers door. Factory has it set that you need to push unlock twice to unlock all doors.

Based on what you said, I decided to give it a try. I almost never use the key fob to unlock the truck since the handle is just easier. (I have that set to unlock all doors). One push of the unlock button allows me to unlock just the driver's door. I can then start the truck and manually lock it and none of the other doors unlock. I have to manually unlock the door though as the key fob still won't unlock the truck.

Dang. That is weird. I don’t have that at all.
As soon as I unlock my Taco it shuts off. I can’t even get in the door.
Still bizarre to me. I should be able to get into the truck and hit the start button to ensure the key is present. I could see the truck shutting off as soon as someone puts it in gear if no key fob is present. But simply opening the door or unlocking is odd. Undo wear on the starter. I wonder if there is a setting I can change somewhere...

There is no setting you can change. It is done from the factory. Even installing an aftermarket remote start won't solve the issue.

Tip #33 to change screen images does not work with the 2020's if anyone was wondering.

Edit for clarity: meant the image that shows on your screen during start up and when the display is set to "OFF"

The remote start issue with the PTS ignition was just pure laziness and a BS excuse from Toyota for the reasoning. My '19 CRV works exactly the way all others do it. To this day the fact that my $50K Taco can't do what a $20k cheaper vehicle does do just pisses me off.

Yeah #10 isn’t true for me. I now have 18,101 on my 2020 OR and it’s doing the same thing as it has from the start. Jerks or “stutters” at speeds between 40-50MPH on flat roads when not in ECT mode.

Get the TSB update, it will greatly improve how the truck shifts gears to the way its supposed to. Click on the link below.

Finally a fix from Toyota for Stumble condition (TSB 0062-18)

The TSB you want for a 2020 automatic is TSB-0092-20 to update your ECU to 04B81. You can even do it yourself or find someone near you willing to update it for you.

Mine does not have the premium/advanced package, and the remote start didn't work until I activated the Remote Services in the Toyota app... it appears that I will need to maintain a subscription if I want to keep the functionality. The triple click on the remote, and starting from the app both work.
