I swear this isn’t an early Friday post. Anyone install heated seats aftermarket for the rear seats? Seems like you should be able to but with the way they flip up for access to the storage underneath maybe not. Anyway, if anyone knows of a kit that works in this application I’d appreciate your feedback. I am holding out for heated steering wheel upgrade option too but that seems unlikely.

For those who think it’s unnecessary I get it is a minor inconvenience but you get used to it once you have it. Love my Tacoma but would be nice to add some creature comforts. Winter is cold in the Midwest.

Unless you're being chauffeured around all the time. Then get an upholstery shop to heat the seats for you. :D

Heated truck bed too! Let’s do this!

Seriously though, don’t think I’ve seen a post of this concept! Not a bad idea!

I think you bought the wrong vehicle type if you want rear heated seats. For the same price you paid for the Pro, you could have purchased a car/SUV with heated rear seats, heated steering wheel and all the creature comforts you would find in a luxury vehicle...not a mass market mid-size pick up truck.

Anyways, it should be pretty easy if you were to buy seat covers like the Clazzios. Just install the seat warmers under the seat covers, put the switch somewhere in the rear of the center console and tap in power. Same way you would do it for the front seats.

Don't think that is a factory option, or will be... isn't that how kids get toughened up since they always get shoved in the back? I always remember not even hot air made it to the back until we got to where we were going.

Anyway seems doable. Check out this thread on heated seats. I added my tweak on page 4, pull the heat power through a 10s delay relay so it is easier on the starter battery.

Other idea I was kicking around as a more temporary thing was the 400W anytime mod in the cab. Then take the 120v heating pads my wife uses (like 1'x2') and plug those in for heat on the seat or your back. I noticed the ones she has around the house are only pulling 130-220W, so the inverter should be ok powering one.

Thanks for the idea. I’ll look into that as an option.

I would have to look for it but it has been done. When I run out of ideas I was considering add them in the back but right now its a car seat and a fridge so never bothered, plus never in cold weather for that long but it would be fairly easy to do.

I installed heated rear seats in my 1987 BMW 535is long ago. I took the elements from a set of front heated seats and wired them into the rears seats, then put in factory buttons and wire harness. Worked great, but it was something I needed junk yard cars to build.

But, You should be able to do this in a tacoma, just loom the wires and zip tie them to the hinges so they dont get cut.

    Why?

Why did you have to bring this up?

The challenge is on my mind now. It can be done with a little shade tree ingenuity and forethought. This is one of the first retro fits for older boats...seat heat for the driver and passenger. Easy peasy.

The gentleman that mentioned a length of lead and some loom, route the wiring in the right places (easy enough), and have easy accessibility to the fold-up/fold-down seat separation. Switches can go on the back of the console panel.

When I strip the cab for sound management (quietness) I'll make this happen. Peel back the skins, a few pads, pigtails, and switches...done deal.

OP, I seriously considered doing this when I added heated front seats to my Taco. It would have been stupid easy to do, a $100 kit from Amazon and about $15 in misc. supplies, done.

I bought everything to do the fronts so not much additional material would have been needed to do all the seats.

Ultimately, my kid was and still is in a booster and I couldn't see it being worth it.

Looks like the one I got from Amazon aren't available anymore, but there are a ton of Chinas finest on there that work as well or better than OEM ones. The kit I ordered came with Toyota switches.
And looking at my order history, I actually ordered 2 kits...hmmm.

This is on my list as well. Nobody else go out to dinner with "Guys in front?" Gotta keep the ladies happy. I am planning on using the same aftermarket Sojoy kit I used in the front on the back seats. I have used this kit in 3 vehicles now and it is a quality kit for $70 on Amazon and comes with 5 year warranty. A couple hours of labor and done.

I might just do this to use up the 9000 rings I got left from the fronts and to make use of the pliers I bought lol.

Easiest to install switches require only the correct hole diameter rather than a precisely cut rectangle(s). If your switches are mounted up front and locations are scarce consider one of the 2-in-one switches. Hi-off-lo only seem to be more reliable than wheels or dials.

I used round switches up front and very easy. Get the right size spade bit and it cuts through the plastic nice and clean for a perfect fit.

How many rings did it take to put the two fronts back in? Thank you.
