Yeah just took a look, going to chop the exhaust and hanger the relocate the tire carrier/wench thing towards the passenger side. Already moved it back a few inches for the 33” spare. Only concern will be the diff.

Good to know. I’ll try it later. Just finished the control arms and about to start cutting after I eat some lunch.

Got my 255x80x17 cooper st maxx put on today. My buddy gave me the wheels off of his wife's new 4runner. I put Icon rxt's at stage 2 in the back today. When I have time I've got 5100's with ome 888's and jba uppers for the front to replace the spacer that I bought the truck with.

Your setup has made me reconsider my options for new tires this spring.

Those Mastercrafts look awesome! Still one of my first choices, wish they were more widely available. Your wheels look familiar:

I was just about to pull the trigger on some Cooper Evolution MT 265/75/16 but damnit I had to take a peek at this thread once again.

Before I take the plunge on 255s...
    • I'm on 5100/885s and an AAL out back (maybe a 2" lift?)
    • I trimmed a bunch of plastic wheel liner when I installed my plate bumper.
    • I'm sticking with my TRD wheels (16x7.5 +10)
Do you guys think I will have issues with rubbing?
    Power loss?
    Shitty braking distance?
    Anything else?

What about Yokohama Geolander A/T G015? They come in LT255/70/R16 and weigh 44.3 pounds.

Hey guys! So Im looking to get a set of 255/85r16 for my taco. I was hoping one of yall would be able to give me their opinion on this. So most of my offroading is in the beach. Sometimes theres small water crossings and sometimes I go play in a little mud, however, I dont think I'll be doing these anymore because they do take a toll on the tacoma. Anyways, my 265/75r16 p rated wild peaks have handled the sand amazingly. The only time I ever got stuck in the sand was when I was screwing around in 2wd with the trac control off.

Anyways, the question is, if I got some of these in 255/85r16, in a 10 ply and A/T configuration, do you think I would struggle in the sand more? The width difference is so small according to this:

You'll be fine. Especially if you air down. Better to have a longer contact patch than a wider one. Think tank treads.

I don't think you'll have those issues. Well, maybe a little power loss because you'll have more tire to roll. I have an OVtune/VFTune with a throttle enhancement, so that fixed any losses I had from going bigger.

I researched when getting my tires, several guys have our wheels no lift with 255/85/16 with no rubbing issues. I noticed very little power loss and braking distance. Im extremely happy with these tires so far.

I picked up a set of five 235/85R16 Geolander M/Ts the other day. I got a killer deal from discount with their price match. I haven’t had chance to test them out on the trail yet but pretty excited.

They’ll grip hard in the rocks. Taller than the 265/75s most people run but much thinner / smaller contact patch. Lots of force per sq. inch!

Ya I’ve got a buddy with the 255s they seem to do really well. I’m sure they’ll be a huge improvement over the 265/70R16 A/Ts I had.

At first they were a little loud but I did the chalk test and the shop had them overfilled for what I needed to be at. I drop from 45 to 40 and they are much quieter and smoother now. I’m curious to see how they wear overtime and if they get louder but my buddy has about 20k on his and they aren’t loud at all.

On another note I picked up a set of steelies I’m working on repainting silver. I thought the steelies would look great with the tall skinny.

Did you take off BFGs? I need a 265/70/16 K02 if you can still get one back. I'm desperate enough to pay shipping on a decent used tire.
