You're going to have to email Matt (support@ovtune.zendesk.com) and upgrade to VFTuner. It's free if you had the old purple (or tiny black) dongle, $79 if you had a registry key for flashing. You'll get the necessary credits to unlock and tune your truck. You will need to send him your original order #, name, address, and email address you used.

I would suggest checking to see if you need a TSB update before unlocking your ECU and requesting the tune packs. 2016 should be on 04B14 and it is a worth while update to do.

From there, you can flash one of the pre-packaged 2.0 tunes or keep reading and tweak it to your liking.

If you need help with the TSB and ECU Rev. @tonered has a good thread going with all the info in one place. Check it out and feel free to ask questions. You can do it yourself without the dealer. There is also a link to download what you need in my signature.

Don't venture too far. There is another update for VFTuner coming out that is supposed to have some nice goodies for the MT folks.

I've looked through about 300 pages of posts so far, 500 left, not including all the new VF threads... and apparently there's a new forum too! https://forum.vftuner.com/

Guess my free weekend will be full now!

Thanks for the TSB info. I think I got everything downloaded for that, might give it a whirl after work tonight.

I did the 2.0 SFOB regular octane tune and it made an immediately noticeable difference. Very happy with the outcome.

After searching through about 10 pages on this thread, I haven't found a clear answer. What does this tune pack do for manuals? Does someone have some time with it that can share what they have gained or lost?

I have a 2016 Sport MT with 33s and 4" lift. I have an opportunity to get the updated 2016 Tacoma MT tune pack. I want to know if it's worth it and why. Several posts on here say "its worth it" then never say why. What should I be specifically looking for after I get it?

Second gear is useful at low rpm and doesn’t bog
    Some see better fuel economy

Perfect. I've had my truck for about 25k miles and have felt all of that. Thank you for the help!

    First of all -

****DISCLAIMER - I'M NOT SPEAKING FOR ANYONE ELSE RUNNING OVT 2.0, AND I'M CERTAINLY NOT SPEAKING FOR MAT OR HIS COMPANY****

With that out of the way, my one main complaint with 2.0 is surging under various levels of load, primarily ~2000-3000RPM. Feels like a miss, kind of a "fish bite" feeling that happens in quick succession. I can easily replicate it pulling a steady hill in 5th/6th, not flooring the gas - just maintaining speed.

I know I'm an outlier, and there may be a coupla other guys in here with the same/very similar issue.

The 3rd gen is known to have surging on the stock calibration too, so there's that.

Before anyone asks, yes, I've tried gas from several different stations. I always run 91E0 on 2.0.

2019 M/T with 25K km on the clock, currently running (slightly modified) 04B41 Premium OL file. The truck does exactly the same thing on SFOB Premium, with mods and without.

Currently waiting on major vFuner update and 04B42 support/tune pack to dig into this further for a resolution.

    YMMV

Did you have the fuel pump recall done?

@MOC221_ I have the same issue. I've run 2.0 SFOB 93, and then same with dump tube patch. I've tried several iterations of the edits that have been posted on here, all to no avail. I kinda have the feeling its an 04B41 issue.

Might be related, maybe not: my rev hang is incredible. I absolutely do not shift past 4K other wise I have to stay in the same gear and wait for RPMs to drop then start going again.

Edit: fuel pump recall hasn't been done but I'm not hopeful enough to expect it to help.

I should also say that my truck does not like to be floored. If I roll on the throttle I get a much better acceleration profile.

I've also replaced the entire exhaust system, which no doubt plays a factor.

Rolling on the throttle is always a good idea with mid horse And mid torque.

Stomping it really only works when one of those factors is obnoxiously high

Toyota has sent me my warning order, still waiting on the notice to bring it in for the recall.

I mean, you can't rule it out 100%.. but I highly doubt it's the fuel pump. For instance, how can my engine pull smoothly from ~3500 to redline at WOT without any of the aforementioned symptoms?

Plus, you had the issue since new.

The failing pumps are more likely to show symptoms in those hard pulls and are more likely on older, low mile vehicles in hot climates. I.E. ethanol issues. ;)
