after watching project farms video on which kit worked the best i picked up the sylvania kit and the results were amazing. looked 100% new. I think you may have been better off using the supplied clear coat wipes

ARB on. Better snaps later, just happy it's no longer sitting in my storage unit, waiting.

Freshened up the rear :pumpkin: tonight.

Took about a half an hour ......

Put some new Toyota crush washers in......part number 12157-10010. This number is for first and second GENS both drain and fill plugs....3rd gen probably the same. The same part number is also used on the front differential fill plug. Torque for both plugs in the rear is 36 foot lbs.

Only a tiny little bit of metallic dust on the magnet which was a good sign.

I learned how to do all the gearboxes in this thread… It’s a good one…

That looks really good and will give you some protection. I’ve had mine on since 2017 after I sucked a deer through my radiator. I just put some deer/ditch lights on last weekend.I bet you’re happy to have it out of storage and mounted.

ARB has done a wonderful job with the powder coat on the bumper mine has held up fantastic

Thanks. I'm pumped to get it on. Fox is the worst I've hit here, fingers crossed, but I'm happy to have it on now, just need to choose a winch. The weather was good and I wasn't going anywhere since there are so many tourists in town, so it was a nice wrenching day. Now I need some lights for it. Ditch lights are a good call too.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

Spindles soaked in rust remover most of the day. We wire brushed them to remove everything loose. We brought the mating surfaces back to bare metal. They are all prepped and ready to weld gussets tomorrow.

Then we'll tape em up and paint em.

Hubs soaked all day too. I'd say they came out nicely.

And then we have the pile of parts:
    Bearings
    Retainer clips
    Inner dust seals
    Outer dust seals

Picked up a bin of spare parts that came off a 3rd gen T4R today, one axle needs a reboot but otherwise it'll all shine up nicely and go to good use.

    PXL_20210704_002708049.jpg

Need to replace my driver's side LCA, swap out a cheap parts store axle on the driver's side and keep the intake manifold on hand for when I send the supercharger out for rebuild.

I’ve got a bumper in the storage unit myself, hoping to have a similar post at some point soon. Looks great.
Rust in California? I thought you guys didn’t have to deal with that BS.

I did my T-stat today and changed the small hoses under the throttle body while I was at it. I meant to replace the thermostat today but ended up putting the old one back in, it didn't look bad and wasn't stuck open or closed and was working fine before I changed the coolant.
I was going to change it out because my truck was running around 200 degrees on the highway but would run cooler around town. Sure enough the jiggle valve was in the wrong position. When I put in the new t-stat and was tightening the housing the t-stat moved and I crushed the jiggle valve and ruined the rubber gasket. Put the old one back in and fixed the position of the jiggle valve and the truck hasn't gone above 188 yet, waiting for a hot day to really test it out and keeping an eye on the old t-stat. So far so good.

Yeah it feels good finally getting the parts pile down and checking some stuff off the list.

did you notice a difference on how the new thermostat didn't fit tight while the old one did. I did the same thing, crushed the rubber gasket because it slipped out of place. I also reused my old thermostat and it "snapped" into the hole and fit tight with no movement.

Until you pick up a literal used parts pile and the list grows exponentially

I’ve done it, and it’s even easier than the 2.7 because it doesn’t have a bearing.

That is exactly what happened to me!
I put the new t-stat in and the little bracket that holds the sensor wire kept getting in the way, so when I got it out the way, the housing shifted and the t-stat moved. I started d to tighten it down and it didn't feel right and then I looked at the housing and saw that the gasket was pinched. It was so frustrating, I put new studs and nuts in but had to reuse the old
t-stat and gasket. I had no choice, the dealer is closed this weekend for the 4th. It isn't leaking and the temperature is lower, I will keep an eye on it.
