Eff me, im now "that guy." Suspension question.

Yes i did search, and yes i read the sticky. I still have a question or two.

I have a full plate sso front bumper coming in , what, maybe 4 months? Ill be putting a winch in it. I will also be getting a super pacific camper end of this year. Rear suspension i dont need help on, pretty sure i know what ill be doing there. Most likely just an aal.

In the front, i could care less about getting more lift. But, i guess if im changing in suspension, a 2 inch lift is more than enough.

I was looking at the Bilstein 5100 set up, and was going to add ucas, maybe icon or total chaos.

Im used to getting radflos for my previous vehicle and i could choose the additional front spring weight. With a shrock front bumper and winch, i always got the 700lb coils.

For the tacoma i only see some lift kits saying, 'regular or heavy duty," no real numbers.

OME lift maybe? Again, 2 inches is plenty. Id like to stay away from bushing replacements or alignment issues, or any other crazy bs that can happen when lifting a Tacoma. Hard to believe lifting my Xterra seemed easier. But my unfamiliarity with the Tacoma is my weakness here.

The truck will do some minor rock crawling, but 70 percent of the offroad use will not be crazy like when i was a younger man in my 20s, trying to push my limits.

So i need something up front to take the extra, say 200lbs ill be adding with a bumper and winch. And the rear to take the 300lb camper and some gear. Before deciding to get the full front and winch, i was happy w the truck as is and was just going to add air bags in the back. Now i cant help myself, and the mod bug has bitten me. Im guessing longer brake lines will be needed as well.

I just got 265/75 bfg at's, and have no plans for larger tires for a while, if i do, maybe 33s , but thats years down the road.

Maybe this? But hearing issues with spc ucas, makes me wonder about using them.

 

forget the 5100s. i've run them on two trucks, did not hold up to extra weight well.

OME has been great for me. highly recommend.

the 886 springs from OME are great for added weight. I ran them on my second gen tacoma with steel bumper, skid plates, and rock sliders and the springs held up great.

 

The issue with the nissans was proper alignment after lifiting the front end. I take it not a big deal with the Tacoma?

 

If you're under 3" of lift, you should not have issues with alignment. Sometimes folks seem to need aftermarket upper control arms to help them get into spec, but I've never had that issue

SPCs are great UCAs, which allow more caster which is needed if you plan on running 33s. I hated the OME leafs, they squeek like crazy, would recommend Deavers, Icons, or ATS packs. My OME suspension has been fine, I didn't love it, with 200lbs it's squatting a bit on 885 springs, it's not a Cadillac like you can get by spending a lot more on Kings or ADS

 

While I can’t personally verify anything, I’ve spent hours upon hours going through threads about suspension lifts in the front. While everyone seems to generally be satisfied with OME lifts, I’ve also seen a handful complain about the springs sagging.

With all the information I read, I decided that the best bang for buck would be the eibach pro lift (only lifts front). I’m actually putting it on this weekend with some icon rxt leaf packs in the rear.

In reality, I don’t think you can really go wrong with either. But I would also stay away from the 5100s unless you’re looking for a very stiff ride.

Get 886 if you plan on running weight - NOT 885s. 885s have the same spring rate as 884, just taller.

I've run 33s with no issues on 3 different rigs. No aftermarket UCAs. So not sure they are needed, though maybe you could get better numbers with them.

OP - I just went to a regular alignment shop every time for ever lifted toyota I've had. Nothing special. They have no issues doing an alignment.

I think I need to buy Rosetta Stone to figure out wtf all of you guys are saying. Every time I read a suspension/lift thread it's like trying to read Swahili

 

SPC (brand) Upper Control Arms allow you to move the front wheels further forward (caster). Old Man Emu leafs squeek. Deavers, icon, ATS (brands) are better. 885 springs are no weight added with 2" lift springs that can't handle extra weight very well. Kings and ADS (brands) are teh shit

 

Nothing wrong with Bilstein 5100. They are designed to be used with the stock springs so maybe that's the issue when you go with some other spring manufacturer I don't know. It is a truck and rides 10 times better than stock.

Biggest downside of all, if you wanted them, tough luck. Not gonna happen for a loooong time. I'm 3 months past a 5 week delivery date and still a month plus to go

Well, my brain hurts. So if im reading what folks are saying correctly, the OME 2 inch lift wont do much for me adding extra weight up front? And for the rear im better off calling Alcan for a new leaf pack.
