Hey guys. This is my first Taco truck. 2021 TRD Off Road. I'm looking for a hard tonneau cover that won't interfere with my factory bed rail system. Any suggestions? I don't care for the vinyl covered type. I'd like to have a black painted or anodized aluminum cover if possible. The one I've seen that I like so far is the Bak Flip MX4. Thanks for the help!

A lot of people recommend the Bakflip MX4, I think that’s the one I’m going for. I’ve had a vinyl roll up cover for a year and I regret not just buying a hard cover. I really like the Undercover Lux ones too, they’re just really expensive and it looks like it gets in the way of loading anything big in the bed (unless I’m missing something).

Following this as well. I bought one off ebay, but it was defective.

Bakflip MX4 has treated my right. Installed Jan 2018 and still going strong. The white marking in the corner is some spilled synthetic wax from waxing the truck one day. So a good note is the cover doesn't like wax.

2nd this. Mine came with stock cover and really liked it for what it was till I took it off cause I preferred to use the nice short tacoma bed sides to access my bed.

That looks interesting. Do you (or anyone else in the thread) ever remove your tonneau cover entirely? I’m interested in getting one for an upcoming road trip and will keep it on most of the time. However, there are times when I would want to take it off without folding it up to the back window.

So I’m looking for one that is fairly water tight, but would let me take it off pretty quickly if needed. Do you guys have any recommendations for this scenario? The Lomax one looks like it may be a good fit for me.

Diamond back all the way. Because then you can still use the top of your tonneau cover the haul stuff.

I got one cost me 1500 bucks. Wasn’t sure if it was going to be worth it but I can tell you it’s worth every penny.

It's pretty water tight. I get some water at the corners but not much. It comes off completely real quick, under a minute. Release the back locks, safety carbiners and the front locks and it pulls right off.

As a bonus I think it's best looking one too.

I have the MX4. I’m sure there are several that will fit your needs. The MX4 is easy to remove fully when needed. I also had a Peragon (sp?) on my F150 that I liked. But the MX4 definitely keeps your rails functional. Good luck.

Thanks for the info! I really like the look, low profile style, and ease of install/removal.

Do you happen to notice any additional noise or sound while driving? I watched a few install and review videos, but didn’t hear anyone comment on that aspect.

I have a Lomax and it’s water tight except at the front where there are small gaps in the corners of the bed, not the Lomax covers fault and I didn’t seal because only a few drips and I prefer some air circulation anyway. Some have reported leaks at the tailgate corners and those too can be sealed, common to any cover.
I can remove my Lomax cover in 1 minute, no tools required. I bought it from Luke at Truck Alterations @truckalter at a nice discount.
Here’s a thread on the Lomax tonneau covers:

@Swboats I have a 4 month old Roll N Lock M-series retractable tonneau cover that I'm getting rid of. Where are you located? I'll make you a great deal! I purchased a Leer cap so I have no need for the Tonneau. It works like new and is great.
