Several years ago, I saw a Toyota Camry remove the rear axle on a new f350. The Camry had a small hole in the radiator but no major damage. The Camry hit ice and slid across the yellow line into the rear tire of the f350.

Gee, remember the 60s, when they thought stronger, rigid steel was the answer? Sure, the car fared better. But the squishy meat sack within? Worse. Much, much worse.

Swapping a steel bumper onto a vehicle that has been carefully engineered to meet modern safety regs has unpredictable results. Those of us who do it, should know that. I don't have any illusions that my bumper makes my truck tougher, because I'd be a fool if I did. My bumper pushes brush at very slow speeds. That's why I bought it. It's going to fuck my shit if I smack something on the freeway. I don't pretend otherwise.
