Fog light mod

So is the fog light mod for 2nd gen only or can you do it for the first gen if you can would please tell me how to do it thanks?

Yea, there is a fog light mod but it is to make the blinkers in your bumper into fog lights.
There are two ways of doing it. One way is easier than the other.

I think i'm gonna do the foglight mod, but buy some clear turns and try retrofitting the fog projectors from a '93-98 vw jetta/gti with hids.

 

where can i pick up the clear turn signal lenses

 

I found them on Amazon and ebay.

 

try any autozone or auto parts store they should have them.

I don't see a downside to that.

 

Whatever you do, make sure you don't search and do any type of research prior to posting a question.

Leave your battery connected too and lights on while you're doing your mod. Maybe even leave the engine running so you don't kill your battery.

 

Okay, so i just got my clear signal lens to start my fog light mod. Now i have read mostly every write up on the fog light mod and its gone from being an easy looking mod to "what the hell are they talking about???"

So here are my questions: I took out the corner light and took a look at what im dealing with. And i see that the corner light has a smaller buld-194 and the signal bulb is a 1156/1157. So they are different sizes.

-Can i just get a amber 194 for the corner bulb and make it the signal or will it be too dull???
-And will the clear 1156 fog light bulb be enough??
-So i take the green wire that goes to the headlamp and connect it to the one that goes to the signal right?? and vice versa for the other one.
-Will these regular bulbs cause hyper flashing??

Can someone please help me?

 

1. Not sure I've seen an amber 194, but I'm pretty sure it WILL be too dull.
2. Probably not. You really need to use the brighter filament of a flasher bulb.
3. Depends on which "version" of this mod you're doing. (Both are linked above/previously in the this thread.)
4. The simpler version of this mod requires an LED resistor to avoid hyper-flashing. The more complicated version does not.

You can just get a 194 amber. Unfortunately, it wont be very bright.

You can just use a clear 1156 down below in the old blinker housing but to call it a fog light is a stretch. Again, not very bright.

You swap the green wires, the one from the marker light (not the headlight) connects to the wire going to the old blinker and vice versa for the other one.

Using a 194 amber may cause the hyperblink. It did for me. But others have done this and not had the hyperblink. Go figure.

Any suggestions for a nice bright bulb for the new fog light?

 

I used Sylvania SilverStar bulbs. Keep in mind, however, none of these (1157, 3157, 4157) bulbs nor the socket in which they're mounted is designed to be a true "fog light". They'll provide SOME additional light and make you more noticeable to oncoming vehicles, but they won't provide forward illumination like a true headlight does.

 

I used the 3157 Sylvania SilverStar bulbs it gives off some light... And I used the 921 bulb for the blinkers and it gets rid of the hyper blink...
