My 2020 SR V6 was totaled recently, so I’m starting to shop & will probably have to decide quickly when I get a settlement. What makes the difference in horsepower and torque from the SR to the SR5 if it’s the same engine?

    ECU de-tuning.

If you get the SR, you can get a tune from Overland Tailor Tuning and have the same power.

I'm pretty sure I remember Sheldon saying the detuned 2.4s don't have the same cooling as the higher tunes. It was in one of the Hawaii reveal videos but I can't find it now.

Just did a quick parts check. A 2024 OR water pump is not the same part number as an SR.

The SR also doesn't have the transmission cooler the SR5 and up has.

If you don't mind a standard transmission, the SR 6MT is probably the best power to price ratio.

Finding one is a different story.

If they’d really come down $5k off the sticker, that’s about the difference in the SR vs SR5. I still don’t know what I’m gonna get for my 2020. That’s gonna be the key.

7-10% off of sticker isn't difficult. Mine was advertised at 5.5% off, and I worked the other side (trade value).

I haven’t driven a standard transmission in decades. Those days are done for me. I’m looking for a pretty basic double cab truck. When I built it online, the only option I added is 4WD. Do they still give that 7-10% on something this basic?

The market is dynamic, but there's no shortage of Tacomas on the lots around here. The SR5's are showing up. The dealer I bought my truck from is currently advertising $2400-2800 off of SR5's priced at $43-48,000.

They won't give 7-10% off. You have to talk them into it and let them know that's what it takes to make a sale. It's not unreasonable in the current market. The SR5's that were "in build phase" or "in transit" last month are arriving.

How many of those SR5s are Xtracabs? If I had to buy a 4dr Tacoma I'm going to get the Offroad, the savings on the SR5 4dr would not change that.

There are tools that can answer that question. Cars.com, autotrader, Visor (although you have to pay) - or you can just use Toyota's inventory search. There's also the database that gets published here, where you can sort for colors and options. I considered a Supersonic Red one in Indiana, but it wasn't wife approved and it's too early to exercise my veto power.

Wait until the brake line recall fix is in and there'll be some great deals on everything with 17" wheels and 16" brakes sitting the last 5 months. More than 10000 trucks sitting on lots irritating dealerships every day they come to work. They'll be eager to get rid of them to make room.

I like when the dealer has a special offer, it's like 2-3k off of a 55k Tacoma. I can get a Super Duty that's ready to have a winch installed in the OE bumper for less than that.

advertised discount is just the amuse bouche. 10% discount is common.

I want an Xtracab 4x4 or Prerunner who is discounting those at 10%?

You can also get a Tacoma for $30k.

a $55k Tacoma has a completely different feature set from a $50k super duty ford.
