Alternatives to Removing Mud Flaps

I have a 2011 4 door long bed with 32 in tires and 3 inch lift. My tires rub when turning sharp. I know that it is rubbing on the mud flaps. What alternatives do I have other than removing them? Has anybody shaved them down where the tire rubs the mud flap mount?

Are there aftermarket mud flaps that do not rub?

I'm concerned that the dirt is going to fly up and ruin my paint on my door!

What size tire exactly?

What wheel offset are you running? If you have a lot of negative offset (e.g. -12mm or greater) switching to a wheel with less negative offset might do the trick.

I dunno man, basically the options come down to the following, ranked from least to most hassle:

live with it,

remove 'em,

trim 'em

try a lower offset wheel (at 265/70R17 you should be able to do a 0mm offset)

replace the UCAs with fully adjustable ones, and have an expert alignment shop give you your alignment while placing the wheel as far forward as possible in the wheel well.

 

is it possible to trim the mudflaps where the tire rubs? if so I'd like to see a photo of how they did it!

I've seen ppl trim the bottom of the flap to minimize the flap rubbing on rocks but not so the tire doesnt rub.

would an aftermarkey mud flap reduce rubbing?

bad idea, this will give you positive caster making your truck drive like shit!

imagine spining the front wheels on a shopping cart forward and then trying to push it forward at the same time...

 

agreeed!! you want as much caster as you can get!

 

No no no.

The point is NOT to wreck your caster.

But some adjustable ucas have enough adjustment options to allow placing the wheel more forward while preserving caster.

Ask prerunnerseth, he's the UCA guru.

 

I have the most adjustable UCA's - light racing. what you are talking about is not achievable with my experience.

 

I cut the stockers down for now. I tried to trim them where they were rubbing (on the part that "bubbles" out by the innermost bolt) but it wasn't working properly. I ended up cutting them fairly short where there is a faint mold line on the inside portion, and rounding the edges. I cut the portion that bolts to the innermost bolt right off about 1" past the pinch weld. Looks great! I already had a couple people ask me where I got them. I also bought some pro-fit #7 mud flaps, but I haven't had time to try to fit them...might not even add them if my modified stock ones do the trick.

Sure, I'll see what I can do for you. They are pretty short...like maybe 3" but seeing as it's Spring/ summer, they seem to be doing okay. You could always trim yours a bit longer. Are yours rubbing in the same area...the bumped out portion between the inner most bolt, and the other bolt closer to the wheel arch?

I was in the same dilemma, but i just removed them and then bought some clear bra material. I clear bra'd each fender liner where the mud flaps were to protect the paint from rock chips

 

I too am having an issue with 265/75/16 BFG at tires. They are rubbing on the small bulge next to the inner most bolt. Thinking of cutting or shaving that bulge off

 

Remove flaps and Buy some sliders. Excellent rocker protection.

I think there might be a miscommunication on the mud flaps. The problem I'm having doesn't seem to be that the tire are rubbing the bottom of the flaps and need to be trimmed. It seems the tire is rubbing the middle of the flap. See attached photos.
