Tacoma Work Edition?

Why doesn't Toyota create a work edition of the Tacoma? It could be a package like the TRD Offroad or TRD Sport. Call it the TRD Work Edition or something catcher. Don't get me wrong I love my 2005 DCLB Tacoma Sport but I wish I could have a little heavier duty with the near same size and gas milage. I have 113,000 miles on it and the suspenion starting to sag even with helper springs, frame is rusting bad, tailgate is falling apart.

I use my truck as DD and my 2nd job running a pool management company it's easy work for the Tacoma. Then I use it ever harder around the house for carrying mulch, firewood, stone, a quad, masonary supplies, etc...

I see so many Tacomas being used by small landscapers, painters, contractors, carpenters. Toyota needs to make the Tacoma more of a work truck as well as sporty. This is what I came up with let me know what you would want to see.

It could include some stuff like:

• 6ft bed with the ability for a sheet of plywood to lay on the floor between the wheel wells
• higher payload like a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton pickup
• 4 or 6 standard tie down cleats capable of real strength not a 200lb weight limit or make it a heavy duty track system
• A heavy duty tailgate that doesn't bend under my own weight or get all chewed up on the inside from material you hual
• Integrated tool box behind and under the rear seats or in the bed sides
• Door handles you can open wearing gloves
• A power outlet in the bed that can power more than just a battery charger
• Factory snowplow option
• More low end power from the V6
• Room to step on the brake when wearing work boots!

I know I could get a Tundra, but it's bigger, gets worse gas milage, and costs more. So if Toyota could get his done in 4 years I'll buy anonther Tacoma.

 

Then there'd be no need for the tundra.

It's allllllllllllllll in teh wallets.

 

Wow, that was some quick flaming. I already said I could get a Tundra, but that's not what I want.

it was a 3 Hit combo my friend well i doubt a truck like that would even exist in the V6 model. You would need a V8 and we all know what would happen if anyone mentions a V8 Tacoma

 

A legitimate long bed would be cool for a reg cab. Not a bad idea IMO.

 

all pro expos will give you a bit more payload without bottoming out the rear suspension if you dont mind the 4" of lift unloaded

 

and OP I wasnt flaming you, it's my opinion on the matter-
If toyota made a "work" tacoma, with more low end, and "work" mods, then the tundra would not serve a purpose in their vehicle lineup.

 

Fine, I will settle for a check box for heavier duty springs, I am sure that would get checked by a lot of people who will do some towing or actually put something besides a bicycle in the bed.

 

They don't really care what you want, they care what people who actually use their truck for work want, because they are the majority of the market.

Sounds like you want a Hilux. Too bad the remaining 99% US of truck buyers prefer bigger trucks for heavy duty use.

 

I use mine as a work truck.

 

I've got weathertechs to keep the carpet clean, heated leather to soothe me after a hard days work, satellite radio to keep me entertained, a cap to keep my junk dry, E rated tires to handle a load and 18s and a hood scoop so it looks good doing it

I just need a set of airbags to hold up a heavy load.

Great work truck as far as I'm concerned. 4' between the wheel wells would be nice but that's 6 more inches and there's no way it can really happen. You'd have to remould the box with less wheel well then put dually-like fender flares on and a wider axle. It'd look stupid and be a super expensive thing to do for the factory for a special (and probably low volume) model. Plus half the people would forget the back tires stick out and get that cool ventilated fender mod you see on a lot of duallies.

If there was a "work" edition Tacoma I would like to see it have vinyl floors, dark colored interior, more "D" ring tie downs, and a heavier duty leaf springs. At a lower price then say an SR5 model.
