Yellow Wire mod

I've read in a couple threads about the yellow wire mod but dont fully understand how to do the yellow wire mod. The one or two threads that I have read about it aren't very clear. Anyone know where a write up is about this mod? Has anyone done this mod and how well did it work?

Thanks guys for all the info. I searched but could only find a couple threads and they weren't real clear.

 

By disconnecting this "yellow wire," you will have TRAC (traction control) in 4-Lo. Otherwise, you only have TRAC in 4-Hi, while having open diffs in 4-Lo (read: it sucks).

After reading the threads listed, it is pretty effective, easy to do, and can give you more traction when you need it while in 4-Lo. This mod applies to SR5s and TRD Sports, as TRD Off Roads have A-TRAC from the factory.

 

Does anyone in this thread have any experience with this mod personally?

 

It works and there is really no reason not to do it. This should have come from the factory in this configuration.

Yes. I cut it. I heat shrinked it back together with a piece of tooth pick in the middle so it looks clean but the wires are cut and won't touch. You can always put it back together.

The second link I posted has some vids if you scroll up or down I think. Check em out and read the comment that goes with them from the guys thay posted them. I'm don't know enough to explain of properly, but its something like it allows full power to all 4 wheels in 4L when normally the truck is running limited slip in 4L. Limited slip is basically the trucks computer applying the breaks, so it limits power. This stops that. Like you can hold the vsc button in 4H and shut that shit off. This makes it so the computer thinks your still in 4h so that stuff still stays off.

That's not correct at all, but you get the idea.

Your best bet is to just take a few days and read the giant ass thread. You don't have to cut it tonght. If your on the fence about just read up on it. The links you need are right here in this thread and all the info is there. Pics, vids, discussion from guys that used it. You might decide it works but you'll probably never need it. That's what I did.

Then I cut the sucker anyway. It's a free mod.

Will this work on the older Sport 4x4 2nd gens? Mine's an '06 Sport 4x4 but doesn't have any of the atrac or VSC buttons or any of that sh!t. Just 4HI and 4LO.

 

Not if you don't have TRAC, however, the '06 sport at least has a real limited slip differential which will function as a limited slip in either 4H or 4L.
