Yeah I have an IFAK and CPR mask I carry...my old one has quick clot, our new ones don't. We actually used a mask on a surf trip in Mexico and I've used a gauze wrap on a guy who slashed his arm open on the top of fence when he wrecked his bicycle.

A good backpacking first aid kit would be enough for me or the average user.

In the back of my mind that's what I was thinking..a Corpsman!! 2/4 is reservist out in Louisiana, right?

Me: "Hey doc you have my medical record?"
Doc: "Hold on let me find it...uhhh I can't find it. Are you sure you didn't check it out?"

Doc: "Hey you still need this shot and that shot."
Me: "Again!!?! But you gave me those shots last week!"
Doc: "Sorry man, you're not signed off on the roster."

    Good times!!

To those going saturday to TSF

I will be coming from tillamook and would prefer to meet at TSF. Does anyone know where the first place is going to be or recommend a time and place to be. I know they will be leaving north plains no later than 9:30. So I was thinking of meeting around 9:45 atths location.

    Thanks guys!

Got my decals from Greg today :D

I think they turned out pretty damn good. The style isn't for everyone, but it's cool to have some original artwork to put on my truck. Will post pics when I put 'em on.

From North Plains to TSF takes roughly 30 - 40 minutes minimum, so you will be early. My advice is to take the Saddle Mountain Rd entrance (the main one next to the ODOT parking area) and take your first left. Go a few hundred feet and you will see an outhouse, probably some other people setting up. I refer to this spot as the 'lower staging area'. I'll make sure we look for you there.

Depends on whose definition of essentials we use, lol. Keep in mind that there's a lot of gear you can have, and some people double up. The most important thing is to get some quality stuff - bad gear is worse than no gear. You can injure people with bad gear.
For stuff that you would use most frequently, I would do this (sorted by relative importance, click on the link for an example)

    - a receiver hitch shackle. If you need to skimp, a hitch pin will work, but you really need to think about getting one of these soon.

    - a minimum of two D-shackles with a 4 3/4 ton WLL (or greater) stamped on them. I carry 3 and wish I had more.

-a snatch strap. Note that snatch straps have elasticity to them so they work like a rubber band. Get a 30' long one, between 2" to 3" wide. Note that bigger is not always better. You need it to be the right size so that it will stretch. Too small and it breaks, too big and it won't stretch. Note that the ones at Harbor Freight and Home Depot are not suitable, they are tow straps, usually meant for ATV's. Anything with metal hooks is bad, too. The ARB snatch strap (model ARB705) is pretty standard issue and easy to find, but spendier than if you had the pleasure of shopping around.

-A from Harbor Freight. You want a point on it to dig in hard ground, and a large one to keep your fatigue down

-a heavy blanket to lay on for dirty work, or use as a traction device. I got lucky and found a discarded moving blanket

-a folding hand saw. I found mine at Home Depot for $10 and it's burly against the PNW downed trees.

-if you can find some, coveralls. again for the dirty work.

-a box to put most of it all in! I use a rubbermaid action packer, but it's starting to be too heavy. You might want two smaller boxes rather than one big one.

If you have money still, I would add a deflator. Many people like the Staun deflators, but I prefer the Currie Industries deflator. It is cheaper, hard to lose, adjustable on the fly, and very accurate. For some unknown reason, shipping is more expensive ($55) than the actual part ($30 or less). For this reason, I suck it up and go to 4 Wheel Parts since it's the only local place that carries it. Note the ARB deflator is the exact same product.

The last item would be a portable offroad compressor. I would wait on this if you can and buy a SuperFlow MV-89 or MV-90. An MV-50 is great too, but can be a little slow. If you can't wait, VIAIR is the leading company, just be prepared to pay more - a lot more.

At this point I should say 4 Wheel Parts is like going to Jiffy Lube for a transmission job. It should be a last resort, the less advice you receive the better, and no matter what, a little bit of your soul gets stolen. I think if you looked at the list of sites on the WARN website, they list a helpful directory of offroad dealers. I've never been, but the Land Cruiser NW guys were supposed to be very good to deal with

    I'm just nerdly

It's better to be over prepared than under prepared.

    I have in my truck
    receiver mounted shackle
10' of heavy duty chain with hooks
    30' 30k strap
    20' snatch strap
    25' 15k tow strap
    Snatch Block
    5 Shackles
    60" Hi-lift
    collapsable shovel
    8000lb winch with dual batteries
    and an ARB deflator.

My experience has been logging/timber supply companies are awesome for quality recovery gear. Just throwing that out there.
