I've got a new Tacoma and want to purchase a new folding bed cover. The Bakflip G2 cover looks great. But reading about warranty and spare parts issues....it's not looking so appealing anymore. (Kind of like a hot looking girlfriend/ wife with a bad attitude)

I personally think a manufacturer is thinking of themselves only when unwilling to respond to a customer's desire to buy spare parts for their tonneau cover. I recently sold a truck with a 12 year old Fold-A-Cover. I needed some parts for it (seals had split and lock was sticking) and Fold-A-Cover happily responded to my needs. They didn't ask where I bought it or any of the other horse pucky I've read here; they simply sold the replacement parts needed and it worked out great.

Out of curiosity, I checked out the other manufacturers web sites for replacement parts available and.....nothing. I wonder if certain manufacturers really don't want to be bothered in supplying parts for tonneau covers that are not under their golden umbrella they deem worthy of parts.

Also, this talk about "authorized" dealers that need to be used for product support is a terrible attitude issue from the manufacturers, that we, as consumers, shouldn't have to concern ourselves with. We should be free to seek out the best price for a product and not have to worry about the manufacturer standing behind their product.

Who will be there for ME and sell me repair parts 10 years from now, except for Fold-A-Cover ???

I've got nothing but good things to say about my dealings with Bak. They took care of replacing my broken parts free of charge.
There's one guy in this thread who's really pissed for his own reasons. There are probably HUNDREDS who are happy on here who don't bother to say it. You always hear from the haters, you rarely hear from those who are happily content.

    Hobby Guy,

Firstly: you are incorrect about BAK not offering replacement parts. Here is a direct link to their website where all replacement parts are indeed available:
    http://bakindustries.com/c-313541-bak-replacement-parts.html

Replacement parts are all free to anyone who's cover is still under warranty, which depending on the cover, can run anywhere between 1 and 5 years.

Secondly: BAK has over 1,800 authrized dealers in almost every nook and cranny in the USA, Canada and 40 countries world wide. We feel it far better to be serviced by someone who knows what they are doing and can actually disseminate accurate info, than rely on much of the inacurate info offered up by non authorized folks like you, who may just want to sell a used product here and there. Case and point: You are not authorized to sell BAK product, and the first thing you did was disseminate lies about BAK not offering replacement parts.

Thirdly: BAK produces product directly for OEM's like Ford Motor Company and Toyota. Do you think that we would be allowed to put a Ford Logo on our product if our service or quality were sub par, or if replacement parts weren't available?

The reality is that Fold-A-Cover, while not a bad cover, is simply not in the same league as a BakFlip. It has less than an 10th of the dealer base as BakFlip and a disproportionate amount of BAK dealers will tell you straight up, that they chose to abandon selling Fold-A-Cover in favor of BAK, precisely because of a lack of service and quality.

I'm not saying you're not entitled to your opinion, but for the sake of the forum, let's try to keep things real and keep things honest.

    Respectfully,

    Julian Maimin - CEO
    BAK Industries

    What ?
I'm looking to buy a bed cover for my Tacoma, not sell anything.
    Calm down.
If replacement parts aren't seen on the BAK web site, don't get so angry. It's just that a potential customer did not see them. That's all.

It's important to customers that parts support is there way after the sale, regardless of where they may have originally bought the product.

BAK bedcovers look great, but we do have questions. Hopefully our answers can come back without hostility.

I bought the Fibermax almost a year ago due to this review after looking at others.
I'm still happy with it but it does have some minor issues. It is made well but although I've never put anything on top of it, it does seem to be warped in the center and water does pool there. Slight leakage still does occur but not enough to make me change. One of the plastic pieces that holds the piston broke but also not a game changer. All of this may have been approved upon in the past year but overall, it's still basically what I felt was a good cover for quality vs price ratio.

You got screwed by Autopartsway not sending you the rails. That is in no way Bak's responsibility to do anything about. You should have given APW hell until they came good for their mistake. APW was wrong in blowing YOU off on Bak for their own mistake.

However, I still don't understand why Bak wouldn't even SELL you the parts, as you said. If that is the case, then I would agree there is an issue at Bak. The person you spoke with needs to be dealt with.

6 months ago in post #116 of this thread you said you went with a competitor... but just a few days ago you said in the Tonneaus - vinyl vs metal hard tops thread that you're still (seemingly happily) using the G2..
Which is it? Did you eventually get rails from Bak?

As many people aren't happy I really don't have much to complain about my BakFlip G2. A few quick fixes as well to help make the cover a little better...btw I have the short bed.

Here's my few cents: I got mine in December of 2012. So far so good from what I've expected from the cover. Yes, it's not fully waterproof but keeps out a hell of a lot of water. I only found a few drips here and there unless it's a freaking monsoon here on Long Island then there's a little bit more. Seeing the same issues from a fellow TW member, I took up the advice and installed brass hose barbs (get 'em from home depot in the plumbing section) into the front drain holes on the bed right from the supplied tubes that came with the cover. I went back to home depot a few days later and got muffler clamps as the tubes gave way from the cover in the monsoon. I recommend getting them regardless of what you decide to do with the drain tubes.

I'm noticing the wire in the covers are getting stuck and not opening the cover. It's hit and miss when this happens.

Security sucks on it, you can open with a hanger. I knew coming into purchasing that's how it was going to be and don't plan on keeping expensive stuff there anyway unattended. If that's the case, get a pop lock installed in the bed.

Other than this little rant, rated from a 0-10 I give it a 7 1/2.

I got one, fantastic cover, don't even think about wanting something different. 90% waterproof, can do some mods to make it 95-99%. ANY cover can be broken in to, get a tailgate lock to make it tougher to get in to. Tough cover. Good price. Quit bitching.

A question for all of you with a bakflip, do you have to release the cover in order to open the tailgate and close it again?
