It's a process where you lay a film over water and dip the part into the film and it sticks. You should youtube it, it's a pretty cool process.

OP, there was a vendor on here offering hydrodip services, I'll see if I can find their thread. It looked like they did good work.

    Here's one

    Here's another vendor:

Not too familiar with it, but a google search turns up some pretty cool and informative videos. In fact there was one posted on here not too long ago. Emblem does look good by the way OP.

Beat me to it. And with a link. Twice.

basically it is the latest way to apply form-fitting bubble-free decals to 3D objects of any size.

the only limit is the size of the dip tank and any machinery to dip heavy objects

it can be done in a coffee cup at home if you have the materials and printer

Sick. What's the ballpark cost (all included with labor etc) for a piece the size of the Tacoma dash? (let's say 2x2 feet with lots of intricate shapes)

    Printer?

Are we talking printing our own designs onto the film with a regular inkjet, or a special printer/inks?

I poked around looking for supplies and could only find pre-printed materials.

The clear film you can print on is crap. Only two places make the good film. One you have to be a wholesaler.

Since this thread seems to be getting some hits on it I will post some more info for everyone who has questions. Not thread jacking but I hope the OP can get more info from this as well.

    Items To Be Processed

There are many items or parts that can be dipped. Any hard surface material that can be submerged into water. Here are some common areas:
    -Automotive
    -Motorcycles
    -Off Road Vehicles
    -Firearms
    -Household Items
    -Electronics(internal components removed)

    Process

The first step is to choose a film and base paint for the item you want dipped. There are many to choose from. Once a basic pattern is chosen; wood, metal, carbon fiber, illusions, camo you can get a little more detailed and pick the specific pattern in the categories.
Secondly, the item will be prepped. This will entail the cleaning and priming of the part. Once the part has been primed it will be sanded to a finish that promotes paint adhesion.
As the third step in this process the base paint will be applied. There will be several coats sprayed to ensure complete coverage.
The film is activated and the part is finally dipped in the tank. Then the part is going to be rinsed in the rinse tank.
After a thorough rinsing and dry time, the part is going to be clear coated. DONE!

    FAQ'S

There are always the same basic questions we get from people. Here are some to help with common questions.

Is the process difficult to accomplish?
The process is not difficult to someone who has been properly trained. Everyone here goes through a training process with a qualified person before they do their own work.

    How durable is the coating?
We will let our product speak for itself. Many of our applications go on off road, autos, and marine applications. These are areas that are constantly abused in the elements. All products are the highest quality that the industry has to offer. Each item is sealed with a UV protectant clear coat.

Does the item need to be disassembled?
Yes. All products need to be completely disassembled, especially firearms. There will be extra fees for dis-assembly on site.

Can a dirty part be sent?
No. Please clean anything that will be sent. The extra time taken to clean parts other than as necessary will have an extra fee.

    How long will it take?
We have a usual turn around time of about 9-14 days. This does not include shipping times. Obviously we will try our hardest to complete your order before that time frame. Orders do get backed up sometimes though.

    What can be printed on?
Basically any flat or 3-D object that is made of some type of hard material. The item will have to withstand being submerges in water for short to long durations of time.

How does the item need to be shipped?
Pack your items carefully so there is no damage during transit. We will package all items sent out from us as safely as possible. However there is a form to sign for the shipping of items back.
