trying to make decision on new vehicle - between dc long bed taco with towing package vs. a dc tundra 5.7. I would prefer the taco but I haul 2 atv's on a alum trailer with bed full of gear (2x year 500 miles) and was just wondering on hauling power of 4.0 V6 and towing pack. i have an 03 taco dc and when loaded it works on hills with this load, no towing pack and slight smaller V6.

The V-6 is rated for 6,500# with the towing package - more than enough for what you're doing. You could haul that with a 4 cyl if you wanted.

DCLB with a towing package will handle your load with no issues. Haven't towed with my 2013. In my 2007 DCLB with the same engine, I regularly pulled two quads with a third in the bed and all of our gear, gas, etc. with no issues.

Towing capacity is 6,400 lbs and you'd be nowhere near that.

I have the DCSB. I think you will be fine. may want to add air bags to help keep her level. I tow a 7x12 steel trailer with a rhino and atv on it quite a bit, to the mountains (about 20miles) but i got some hills and all. I estimate the weight at around 3k to 3500, (idk exact weight of trailer)and i can’t even tell it is back there really. only time i can really tell is when stupid people cut me off at 75mph and i have to slam on the brakes so i don’t hit them.

edit: I only tow about 20 miles one way, so 40 round trip. But i do have some like 4% grades at 75mph no problems.

It's got plenty of power - rear springs are a little soft....

yeah only reason i think air bags may help. my truck does not sag much with towing. but i think that also has to do with how we load it. and it’s also a tandem axle and not a single axle.

Yep it will be fine. I posted in one of those other threads I'm sure. With my last 05 double cab I pulled my brother in law's heavy steel car trailer loaded 3 times without any issues besides not having a trailer brake controller. A BMW 325is, a fox mustang, and a fox Capri all rode behind my last Tacoma with no issues at all. Heck I towed my FJ40 home from PA to NH 11 years ago on a heavy UHaul trailer behind my wife's old 98 Tacoma. But I wouldn't do that again. It was a little hairy.

For 10 years I hauled single and double place aluminum trailers with snowmobiles in my 2.7 L V4 automatic. Works a bit on the hills but I did long trips many times without issue. The V6? Forget about it! Haul a 4place with 3 side by sides and a bed full of firewood!
