An 18" antenna denotes vhf frequencies around the 140MHz range which is a subset of the vhf range which can range from 30-300mhz or 10m to 1m.

The advantages of ham are simple, with a license you can pump more power through your antenna than you could ever with a CB radio. Omni Antennas get up to 50mi range easily LoS. Anything after that you'll probably be DXing or playing with a unidirectional antenna like a yagi, dish, or similar.

If you're looking at learning HAM, check this out:

    NOPE!

As far as antenna mounting goes, most folks with VHF just pop a hole through the roof. It's quick, easy, and gives easily the best performance.

Little this. Little that 4x4 Swap’d PreRunner
Alright, I'm pissed. After a month of deliberating and trying to figure out what was wrong with my driveshaft, I decided to swap a new one in..

Vibration/high pitch noise is still there..

I really hope its not my transmission.

Is there any way it could just be the tranny mounts? how do I check to see if those are bad?

Not sure how much this thread will help, but I was all over it after lifting my truck:

i cleaned up a few sensors today with no go :( But after reading your reply, i dont think i got the right sensor....lol....i guess i can give it another shot 2marrow. what i did notice, (had my wife get back in the truck and play with my shifter ) i asked her to shift in all 4wd modes. I noticed that the bar(under the truck) that goes from the shifter (and connects to the tranny) isnt moving while she shifts (not sure what to call this bar..lol) it should be moving if she is shifting right??? maybe i should post pics unless you know what im saying

Haha, you're just brilliant about everything, then!
I would do that, but that's where my CB is mounted, and to be honest I don't want to drill a hole through my cab...

I hate Fairfield. On I-80 on the way home from Fremont I'm in the first lane about to exit and this white Chevy SUV creeps up next to me and beings to switch lanes with no signal. They almost crash into me so I honk and avoid them. Go SUVs going about 50 on the freeway so I switch left and take over. As I pass mid aged woman on the phone with no fucks given. This is on the freeway, on regular roads I almost get hit everytime I take the truck out.

Oh, that guy won the dumbass award for sure. All the windows on my shell are tinted. His car is so low to the ground, it shakes. And he thinks his silver star brights are gonna matter? Hardly :)

My stock brights, however, light up the interior of his car nicely.

You'll do that alot in your area, my mirrors in my "lowered" car are JDM so I cant see them because theyre made for right hand drive cars. If the tacoma was good on gas it would be my daily.
