Have been searching and researching and probably gonna get a skid plate next.

Should I go with the TRD skid plate, or one of the after-market plates available? I like that a lot of the after market plates come in several pieces for optimal protection.

Thanks for the feedback in advance...

It's all personal preference. I went with the Trd skid cuz I wanted to keep the oem look, but to each their own

Do you offroad alot, sometimes, not at all?

Aftermarket if you offroad, because the stock skids are just stamped sheet metal at best. Aftermarket is usually plate steel to take a pounding and protect your vital equipment.

Haven't been wheelin in this beast, but my last Yota was out quite a bit.

This one will be wheelin eventually so probably falls into the "sometimes" category. It will spend a lot of time in the mountains on overnight camping and weekend fishing excursions mainly. So very primitive dirt roads with some exploring OR for new water and/or camping.

OEM plate is minimal protection and mostly just for show. Hell... I've got one on my truck but I don't off road hardcore. If you plan on getting into anything rough go with aftermarket. The OEM looks good but that's about it.

I actually just went through making the same decision. I ended up getting the TRD accessory skid, mainly because I don't do any serious off roading. Mainly just fire/dirt roads up in the mountains with the occasional excursion off the beaten path. Since it makes me cringe getting the tree branch pinstripes, let alone body damage, I doubt I'll ever need heavy duty skids. However, if you plan to do any serious off roading I would look at something more substantial.

Have you checked out Matt123's skid out in the for sale section? It's a little more expensive than the TRD accessory skid, but it is made out of 10g stamped steel, which should take more of a beating than the OEM one. It also looks very similar to the TRD accessory skid.

check out bud built....i dont think u can get anymore protection...i have had for 2 years and they do what a skid plate should do. when i was in silverton colorado last year i went over several rocks that made me glad i had that level of protection. ...there are other manufacturers that provide this type or armour...

Matt123 builds awesome stock-looking but beefy ones. Well worth the upgrade.

I got the budbuilt skids plates, and they offer fantastic protection. Easy to install, and well made. If you want to save a little weight, they are also offered in 1/8th inch steel. Beefier than the TRD, but not as heavy as most of the other steel aftermarket. My only complaint is that mine will vibrate occasionally. It's not really bad, but there is about a 200-300 range of RPMs that they will make a little noise.

Could you put a small rubber grommet in between the plate and where it touches the frame? That might take care of your vibration.

I took off my stock skid after hitting an ice chunk while driving on frozen lake - nice dent in it. Now that's the only "off-roading" I do.

I picked up the All pro 3/16 steel plate 54lb skid for $269 plus shipping. Pretty trd skid which is just a cover add on is
1/8"-thick heavy duty aluminum and $165ish. It's a pretty easy decision imho. Get the proper one and you won't ever have a problem - paint it silver if you need it to show off.

Yep, this is the exact issue. I spaced the plate and reduced the contact a lot, but it still does it a little bit. Just something to know ahead of time, I still love the plates.

Your worthless self couldn't even come back and defend the shit talking threads you started.

Oh and just so we're clear, yes Eric is my friend, but I wouldn't defend (or promote) poor craftsmanship or shoddy business practices. Whatever issues you had with Eric were self inflicted, and you made that clear for all to see in the threads you started. How'd those threads work out for you?

Just FYI, caps just makes you look like an idiot.

Edit: and I really do think Eric makes bad ass skid plates and I run them on my truck, in fact, the pictures on his website of his skids are of my truck.
