We went on a night-snow bashing run up on Yankee Hill. It was Gerdo (3rd gen 4Runner) DHWreckage(FJ 80) and me. It was an awesome run with drifts of snow over 36". PICS:

The trail starts out at an old cemetery which, at night, was kind of spooky

The start of the trail didn't have much snow

Then, it got deep! All of needed to winch or get a tug by the end of the night.

So, I had to say goodby to my little sidekick this weekend. Not a "build" item, but she was integral to my normal loadout, and was a better friend than I could ask for. She lived 16.5 happy years and it was just her time.

Sorry to hear about your loss. :( It's never easy losing a pet, sometimes they're more a part of the family than the actual family.

On a side note, I love your truck. It's giving me bad ideas of things to do to my '97, which isn't good because it's supposed to be my DD. Haha.

    Sorry for your loss, Lumpskie.

Haha, mine is my daily driver too!

On that note, can I get some help from you supercharger guys?

I have a friend that is selling a gen 2 supercharger with less than 50k on it. He is also selling this:

    http://urdusa.com/p1230100017/URD-6...for-TRD-5VZ-FE-Supercharger/product_info.html

Is this a setup that I could use on my rig? I saw it mention that the upgraded injectors are not recommended for non-egr vehicles... what's up with that?

Also, what are these things selling for these days? I was thinking I would offer him a grand or so for the whole setup...

With that many miles, you'll want to rebuild it and replace the nose cone oil. Costs about a grand or so from Magnason or whatever, the builders of the SC for TRD.

Yes that is the correct URD kit for our trucks. BUT still an issue.

our trucks aren't supported by TRD for the SC. For some reason our ECUs retard exhaust timing when boost is applied so much that you'll actually loose power. That is why you always see, "TRD supercharger! for 97-04 tacomas and 4runners!". They could never get the 95-96s to work for some odd reason.

    That being said.

You can swap out ECUs for a 97. it just has to be for a 4x4 5vzfe manual out of a 97 truck and your golden.

not that people haven't SCed their 96's and been totally fine..but many have not been. So can't hurt.

a grand for it is a steal if it comes with all the URD stuff. But with that many miles..you could argue that you have to pay another grand for the rebuild...so...

Changing the nose cone oil is easy.

But a full rebuild is like going through and redoing the rotors and all bearings ect..

So the seller said that he replaced the nose cone 10miles ago... does that mean that he did some of the rebuild that you guys are talking about?

So it sounds like the consensus is: Check the rotors for scarring, and rebuild the bearings, if needed. Also, it looks like the fuel stuff will work, if I get a manual trans '97 ECU. Does all that sound about right?

It makes my day when people find my thread interesting enough to read... especially if they get past the first page! Thanks for the kind words as well.

(On another note, I've been lurking your thread for a long time)

I left a message with the guy selling the supercharger... we'll see what he says.

Would any of you guys be worried about supercharging a truck with a bunch of miles on it, like mine? (~250,000mi) I'm a little worried about the stress it would put on the rings...
