    Hello all,

This forum is great. I only wish I had read this forum before I purchased my new 2014 DCLB Sport... In retrospect, I might have sacrificed the long bed for the OR package. Then again, length matters (to me and my wife ;))

At any rate, I now have a Sport, and I'm wondering if the Yellow Wire Modification works on the 2014 model?

Has anyone done this mod on the 2014 model or know of anyone that has?

Are the directions still the same as they are on the page linked below? http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/te...-abs-kill-switch-why-why-not.html#post6254361

Benson X's method worked for me. It's been issue free since I did it almost two years ago.

    Thanks, Boone.

It seems that the general consensus is that this particular mod works well, and I"m glad that it has worked for you.

I was just wondering if anyone had done it on a 2014 model, and if so has anything changed between the 2012 model and 2014 model.

I'm hoping to not be the guinea pig, but at some point, I'll just start taking the glove compartment out so that I can have a look-see for myself.

It's not irreversible. If it doesn't work or if you have second thoughts, reconnect it and be done. Just my $.02

Since you've done the research, what are the pros and cons of doing the yellow wire mod?

Pros: traction. It is more noticeable at higher rpm's IMO.
    Cons: none.

Why do they NOT come stock like this? If it's so easy to change and the difference is that big?

Don't get me wrong, I'm all about doing the mod if it works w/o hurting other systems. Which I don't expect it does. I was planning on adding an ARB locker at some point but those are pricey. And I don't wheel often or hard. Just a 'just in case' as I've had locked diffs before and I've been stuck before. The latter is rare with the former. This looks like it's almost as good as a locker for free. Just pulling wires on my new truck to make things 'better' than stock, I usually do some research first.

As I understand it, when you shift to 4L in the Sport model, you end up with open diffs running both up front and in the rear. Thus, without some type of non-stock differential lock, you can find yourself stuck in a situation in which traction is lost to both a front and a rear wheel as these wheels spin freely.

As I understand it, in 2H, the Auto LSD will kick in when a tire cuts loose, thus the brake for the spinning wheel will be activated thus putting enough friction on the wheel to 'trick' the differential into sending more power to the wheel that has traction.

I *think* that the yellow wire mod makes it so that the auto LSD will engage when in 4H (but only for the rear wheels)... but I could be wrong. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if I was wrong because the options are confusing.

Here is a good link for more info. http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...-controls-trac-auto-lsd-trac-rear-locker.html (I think the yellow wire mod will achieve for Sport models something resembling #8 in the list on the linked page: "8) Spinning tires in front only: L4 with REAR DIFFERENTIAL LOCKED.")

    As for the cons???

    Bueller... Bueller...

Don't get me wrong, this is nowhere as good as a locker. That being said it is free and it does help, but it's not a night and day difference.

Well its a land Cruiser with a diesel so I've got that going for me.
So the yellow wire mod is basically worthless. If I was you I wouldn't waste the time it takes to drop your glove box outta the way to cut the wire. I have done it mine and others and it does nothing once that unloaded wheel starts spinning. If you are really to the point where you are breaking traction and find yourself in 4LO than you need to invest in a Locker, plain and simple.

This is my opinion after having had my yellow wire cut for over a year and tried to get the usage out of it... Open/Open will always be open/open sorry. Get a rear locker (and maybe a front if you feel like you need it) and you will have a far more capable truck than the OR in you sport...

Like stated it will help some, as it essientally makes for the auto LSD front and rear.... but it is no ATRAC like found on the off road.... nor a locker, which is found on the off road as well.... this is why you get the off road, they really shouldnt make the sport in anything other than the DCLB config imo.

Related question... what is the logic behind not offering the OR in the DCLB?

Surely I'm not alone in wanting (or imagining that I want) a diff lock in a long bed configuration.

As it is, this is my first real 4x4 (my Subaru legacy doesn't count), and I was hoping to do some real trail rides here in the Pacific Northwest mountains.

If they did offer it, I would've bought it. When I asked the dealer about it, they said they get the request of the off road package on the DCLB more times than not on every Tacoma they sell. Toyota dropped the ball on that one.

Stuff I Think Makes it Better
I don't think they did, though. I mean, technically, if you are doing OR in a long bed, there's always that chance, and i mean small chance, of high siding your vehicle. I think Toyota had that in mind when making their OR in strictly SB. If you really want the LB, then go w/ the Sport still w/ 4x4 capability. Toyota hit it on the head. But that i just my opinion.

As Boone said, just do it. Takes 5 mins and is easily reversed.

It definitely does help, it's not perfect but it's better than nothing for sure.

Only con is your 4lo light blinks at you in 4lo... Not a real con, but the only annoying thing I found. Oh and that you had to do this in the first place to take advantage of trac

I'm going to go out on a limb and bet that the longer turn radius is a bigger deal than the risk of high siding.

like stated it was really for intended uses.... those who want the DCLB are 95% going to be a small family, who needs a smaller truck but wants the capaibility of a little more bed space and 2 full seating rows... those people are not going to be on the trails in their truck.
