driveshaft protection

Well I have been searching and googling. I remember reading a build thread on here, of someone who built sort of a protection plate right under there driveshaft and it moves with it but don't spin.

I was interested in making my own to let my driveshaft side over obstacles as well. Please if anyone knows what I'm talking about, help me find the link.

 

Like a rear diff skid?

 

i THINK he literally means a skid for his driveshaft. the amount of work it'd take to make on that'll not inhibit articulation, yet support entire truck would be insane.

upgrade driveshaft, lift truck more, and avoid sliding driveshaft on obstacles at all cost. theres a reason the big boys carry spares.

 

I have one of these. It's saved my driveshaft several times.

Dang, that's freaking insane, I might just stay with that idea then. Since the axle I bought from Wyatt is already setup for a track bar, I just might do that, plus imma go to one piece driveline too. Lol

Never thought a track bar's function is beyond controlling axle wrap tho. Lol. The more I learn and know.

 

Just carry a spare driveshaft and try not to fuck up. Much easier and lower cost, makes you a better driver.

 

This works as well, although it's more shit to carry, and our drive shafts aren't exactly easy to pack.

 

Yeah they are. I bring one every trip. And it weighs, what, all of 30lb?

Custom driveshaft protection costs a lot in fab and makes access for maintenance more of a pain in the ass.

Somethings aren't worth putting a skid plate over (LCAs, rear diff, driveshaft).

 

I might just stick with being a good driver since the custom once piece that imma have done.

Who said not to get a traction bar? If you think a traction bar is driveshaft protection, you're mostly wrong. Occasionally you might get lucky with that. I would definitely recommend one for wrap prevention however.

It is often worthwhile to look into the posting history of the people you get advice from.

Because some of them have been there and done that.

Especially when it comes to breaking parts.

 

Yeah I could fab up my own Trac bar for much much less.

As everyone stated, it is just driveline protection from time to time. It's main job is controlling axle wrap, if I'm correct.
