2014 Taco Back Up Camera Hack

I have seen it done before, but wondering if anyone has had any luck in a hack to turn the back up camera on a 2014 Tacoma on/off with the flip of a installed switch.

 

I believe you would have splice the switch into the reverse sensor line for the headunit so it doesnt activate the camera

Take off the coin tray and take a look if the same wiring if available.

 

Easily done if you remove the lower dash, which is pretty easy as well. There is a connector behind the coin bin where the camera wiring lives, power up the red wire and you will have a camera anytime you want. Careful.. there are 2 red wired in that connector.

I'm not really sure why anyone would want to do this, our cameras are aimed more at the bumper and trailer hitch. As I said in a previous post... it's not like you can check out the chickie in the car behind you, it's not that kind of a camera.,

Start at post #26. This is what I followed for the 2014 and it worked like a champ.

As to usefulness, I use it when I pull forward into my garage to stop at the precise point where the door will clear the bumper.

 

x2 on what robman said and thanks for verifying this works on a '14 - i need it to make sure i clear the garage door.... right now i have to put her in reverse to check, wife does the same with her car

 

This should work on a 2012 rite?
