Bigger rims? I wouldn't get a rim bigger than 17" 18" wheels will look close to mine, low profile street. Offroad/performance rims are nearly always 16" or 17". Reason being it is very hard to bend/scratch a 16" rim, nearly impossible. Also, since there is less metal and more rubber, your ride is better. You will most likely want different rims, and if you get different rims I personally say get a 16" setup. If you like your rims, just make sure your tires fit 17", that will be cheaper than buying new rims. But remember, new tires should last at least a few years... 6 or 7 for me. So it is a pretty permanent decision.

As for the same time, yes. You don't need to buy them at the exact same time, but buying tires, mounting them on old rims, then remounting on new rims, is a big hassle and costs more $$$ for a shop to mount them.

Get the tires or rims you want, then wait until you have the matching rim/tire you want. If you want your current rim, just bring the tires to a shop and tell them what you want done. Am I explaining myself well?

How many miles are on your current tires? Do you ever offroad or go on the beach? The first things I bought for my truck was recovery gear and adding recovery points. Next was safety odds and ends and good floor mats. I still like the ARB OBA idea though.

If you don't off road much then i wouldn't worry about buying new tires/rims/lift unless you are in need of some new tires. If you surf a lot, i would come closer to buying stuff that you would need to make your hobby easier. Like stated before some seat covers, floor liners, maybe a bed or roof rack to haul the surf board/gear easier. That would be my .02 for a $700 budget.

Yes, very well. I think i'll go with just rims then and skip tires. That way i wouldn't have to wait either. Do you have any good rim sites too? I read about the one where you can put it on the car to see how it looks?

    What is recovery gear?

I like the floor mats idea though, that would really help with the sand/water

I do like the look of roof racks but seeing as i can transport 5 7' boards in the bed as it is, i haven't a huge need yet! But the seat covers and floor mats could be a very worthy investment...how much for some good ones?

I'd go with weathertech floor liners. Well worth the money. They have saved my truck liners numerous times. As far as seat covers, many people love the wet okole covers.

This is really good advice. Baby steps! My first two mods were weathertec floor liners (AWESOME buy. Should be the FIRST thing anyone does to ANY vehicle!!) and waterproof seat covers for after-work and after-gym driving. I sweat a lot.

I really suggest you get weathertecs and waterproof seat covers. PM incoming as I have some. :)

I don't really use any rim sites. And if you are keeping tires, why not keep rims too? Keep the first few mods functional, that way you don't get burnt out on spending money.

When I look for rims, I use the Tacoma World search function as well as google black Tacomas (Because mine is black. Black Sand Pearl to be exact, should be the same for you)

Going to the build threads would be a good start since they usually have new rims.

Again though, if you aren't changing tires, why change rims? You have to buy the rims, pay someone to mount them, then they charge you to "dispose of the old tires" and KEEP your old tires, then probably pay them to put them on since you aren't home to do it yourself. Then you will have a hard time selling your current rims and if you were me, be wishing you had bought some other stuff!

BHLM (Black headlight mod) is also a very cost effective mod. Small amount of money, large amount of enjoyment.

Okay so im getting new tires soon and my dad agreed i would pay the difference in price between new thicker tires and the ones he would normally buy. Good deal! And then i can also buy the rims and do it all at the same time.

I was hoping you guys could give some input there lol. I still want to stay with the 17" rims, just a tire that is thicker than mine now. I checked and i think mine are like 245 mm wide

    Well good for you!

Really? Wow. Thinner than I thought, but width isn't really a necessity. If you could post a picture of your sidewall information that would be great. I can't believe no one (including me) has given you this link yet.

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/wheels-tires/23715-how-understand-metric-tire-sizes.html

Don't get trigger happy. Anyone here can tell you that it is normal to spend months researching before you decide on any mod. I spent about half a year researching my lift and a few more months deciding rims and tires! Your decisions will change many times in that time period too. Always remember your functional needs and try to consider: "In the future, what will I wish I had gotten?"

The most common tire size is 265/75R16. That's what I am running but I am also lifted, so they may look smaller. Any bigger would be a specialty need tire I think. I would definitely e-mail the Customer Service (Live Chat is useful) of the top tire sites, Goodyear, Michelin, Bridgestone, BF Goodrich, etc and ask them their opinions. Tire rack is a good site to find the right tire and buy it elsewhere.

Yes i plan on taking some time to decide on rims and tires for sure. How thick could the tire be and still fit? Obviously im not going for max here im just wondering haha

    Thanks!

Guys Im figuring this all out and i really like these rims. But are they made in 17"? If they are only 16" im not sure if i'd want them because then i'd have to buy smaller tires correct, or not necessarily?esa2ede4_f8b86f5eda4fb631cf9a1acc90982e703e0aec9d.jpg

You would have to buy different tires to fit those rims. Along those lines however you have to think about future plans. If you have any plans to lift your truck and go wit ha bigger tire you'll need to consider the back spacing of your new wheels. Just a thought. great looking truck though!

    They're sweet!

So i know i'd have to get a tire to fit them, but would that make me need a smaller tire or would it just have a smaller rim ?

so if i ever plan on lifting the truck (not sure, probably not but who knows) would these rims/tires interfere?
