What's under the shark fin?

Does anyone have a pic of what's under the shark fin?

I don't have the fin version, but I'm curious to see if there's a hole there and if it can be used to mount a dual band antenna.

Would assume there is some sort of hole to run wire down to head unit. Good luck finding someone willing to pull theirs up and see.

There are two holes...one for the signal wire(s) and one for an alignment pin.

Are you wanting to use this antenna as dual band or install a new one? What frequency and power are you want to transmit and receive? These questions and and answers will help to determine how to get done what you want to do.

I wanted to add a new one and if there was an existing hole I could simply remove the "fin" since it's not being used.

By dual band I mean 2m/70cm for HAM at maybe 50-70w, so I would need a totally new antenna. The only thing that makes this possibly not work is the alignment hole.

 

Any idea where a removal / reinstall thread might be ?

 

Just gotta drop the headliner and remove the nut that is around the larger post with the wire(s) running through it. In the above pic you can see where the post is threaded, the brass nub is for the ground

I was wondering if one of the Deck Seal waterproof bulkheads would be s direct replacement to run wiring to a roof rack

That looks good. unfortunately, I do not know the diameter of the stock hole/post. Also, what to do with the smaller hole from the alignment pin?

I think the alignment hole is going to be easy. Find a button head screw with an allen or torx head that fits into the hole and the head should be larger. Then find a rubber O ring of a slightly smaller diameter than the overall head of the screw and tighten it all down from the inside.

If anything add some dielectric grease to the inside of the O ring.
