I hear ya, I feel the same way... I'm the guy with 170K !
I'm split though whether to look at it as bringing up the value of the re-sale or just making it sale-able ?
Either way is a win I suppose and am anxiously awaiting my place in line. My truck rides and runs like a top but of course I have really forgotten how it felt when it was new and am looking forward to that sensation !

I am surprised your truck qualified.... are you registered in NC ? I thought it was the northern trucks that were affected ?

Yea, registered in NC. I did buy it in the mountains and stayed there for school, and visit PA fairly frequently. The "warranty" has been extended to more states than just the northern ones.

Just so you know Toyota will cover almost any parts damaged during frame replacement that are attached to the frame. In my experience that has included almost every set of rear shocks I've removed. I've replaced 6 frames at my dealer now, and have also had my own taco frame replaced. On my own truck I replaced front struts and rear shocks, engine and tranny mounts, e-brake cables (seperated at the drum), timing cover leak and did the water pump while I was in there, cab body mounts, sway bar bushings and links, power steering rack (leaking), upper control arms, I think that was it haha. Obviously I get a parts discount and doing my own labour but a lot of this stuff was coming off anyway and it's a rare opportunity to replace parts that are otherwise a real bitch to get too. Also note you get new lower control arms with the frame, good luck and enjoy.

Why do all rear shocks get replaced? Do they/you just cut them off and not try to remove them?

I went to look at a 2005 Tacoma TRD today at a local Dealer and looked underneath and saw all new parts. It's got 111,000 miles in good shape asking $11,900 with everyrhing new underneath. It's going in my garage Monday.

    Update:
I have owned 4 Toyotas spanning almost twenty years. I have been saving to purchase the new Tacoma next year after the first year bugs. No longer.

My frame somehow passed inspection even though you could see straight though it. (At a certain angle)
I called Toyota Corporate the day it happened. (Also due to airbag light still being on after the spiral cable replacement) after my inspection.

They said that I must return to the same dealer for reinspection.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/frame-rust-recall.263311/page-60

Upon reinspection-with me present-my frame failed. There was a light coat of surface rust flakes, and I picked off with my fingers to allow a better viewing angle of the hole. (DO THIS BEFORE YOU TAKE IT IN). Whatever you do...don't be honest like me. If the hole had been more visable the tech wouldn't have missed it.

Now after a two-month phone tag with corporate call center folks, I am left with a rotten frame that they won't cover due to it "passing" inspection the first time.
Implying that somehow my mighty finger strength distroyed their frame.

Not the rust that covers it from the inside out..

I've enjoyed this forum even though I've been a lurker. If I can save someone from getting mistreated by Toyota, with this post I can contribute back to a community that has (unknowingly) given me and others so much.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A VERY VISIBLE HOLE BEFORE TAKING IT IN!

I went to Hendrick and was surprised they put a hole in the frame.

Anyone else have their dealership offer a "complementary appraisal"?

Any guys not in the states in the letter taken their truck in for inspection? I still think I'd like to get mine looked at, even though I live somewhere it (almost) never snows.

That's BS, find another dealer. I just took mine in, lifted with ARB front bumper, SOS Concepts rear bumper, snorkel alternative, aux fuse panel, etc. I'll hopefully have it back in a couple days.

The majority of frames we have done have been 2005-2006, so the top bolt and hardware usually gets destroyed coming off being that they are so old. Toyota just requires proof of a damaged part, again as long as its attached directly to the frame.
