running light question

hey guys. I have a quick question we have a 2010 tacoma and when you start the truck we get the amber running lights that come on and stay on until you switch to the headlights. My question is we recently bought another 2008 tacoma with the sport package and we do not get the amber lights to come on. So my question is is this not standard on 08 models or is there something i can do to get them to come on. I like them on the 10 so if possible id like to have them on the 08 to. Thanks for any help Brad

 

I think it might have to do with the year of the truck but not positive, hopefully someone else answers that one. I am positive that there is a write-up in the cheap mods section on how to wire them as DTRL's (daytime running lights).

 

I think on the 09 and up models the lights always stay on until you turn on your headlights. Pretty sure there is a write up in the mod section

I have an 08 Reg Cab 4x4 SR5 and my running lights dont come on unless i turn on my headlights. You can turn on the running lights without the headlights, but they wont automatically come up upon start up.

 

sorry im talking about the center turn signal lights not the outer running lights

I was going to install the factory DRL on mine until I read about the melting problem. Now I just leave the headlights on all the time. I put a couple of toggle switches in to control whether the clock and compass are dimmed with the lights on, that way I can see them in the daytime with the main headlights on. There were a few other things I considered, but this was the least disruptive and took the least time.

 

thanks i may just wire the center lights up to were they will come on with the parking lights instead
