Give him some time esp if he's on the road. Things on here get out of hand really quick. You wouldn't believe how many orders i've missed because I couldn't respond within the 10min someone waited before ordering from somewhere else. I find out after I spend 20mins designing their decal only to find out I wasted that time I could have used to respond to someone else. For some of us this is not our full time job chocked full of staff to help. We do this during our personal time after a full day's work for someone else. Not trying to be negative but some things to keep in mind!

I've never met the guy personally, but can attest to his quality of work.

My truck was one of the custom installs he did on the road. He not only installed my box, but also my bed lights... All with no more interaction than being handed the keys. See, I'm (deployed) across the world, and he was willing to make sure everything was done right, so when I get home, I have more time to spend with my family.

I was kept up to date with photos of the job and info from my wife as he was working. No issues with the work, and no hesitations to handing him my keys again.

He's the only one working on his boxes, and raises a family. Anyone else have young kids? How do they affect your hobbies?!

His communication may not be the best, but I imagine he can build boxes or answer emails/phone calls/forum posts... But not all at once.

I for one will be ordering a box and wiring and won't really think about it again till it shows up in the mail. I KNOW skygear is a stand up guy trying to make some money on the side with a great idea whilst taking care of his family and job. If it shows up 6 months later...oh well, I'm not gonna wait around for something custom loke that

Skygear is falling into the same pattern that TAP did, lying to customers:

ATO front skid (need more but icon's might fail if I hang anything else from my truck) All-Pro front bumper thanks to a good deal here and a pesky encounter with a rock or 20, total chaos uppers.

So more info about this watched by the FBI thing. (It's a slow day here)

But honestly I feel for the op, just tell your customers what's going on and if they can't wait just refund the $$. Good work takes time, people understand that if your upfront.

I dont understand why this happens all the time on TW. I ordered a box from skygear and drove down to have it installed. He went way beyond my expectations, even helping to wire in some of the existing electronics on the truck. He is definitely not the kind of guy to do all that he has done and then suddenly dissapear with everyone's money. He is currently on an extended cross-country trip to install/build tons of boxes, and as such has limited computer access. Like it was said before, he's not running a full blown business, he has no shop and no employees other than himself. He is building these boxes as a service to TW. As such, he can give you the awesome pricing hes giving you, because he dosent have to pay any bill other than the cost of materials to build the boxes. if he were to have a shop and some employees, his pricing would at least double. While i agree that he is probably in over his head with orders, there's no reason to blow up and try to shame him on the forums, especially when its public knowledge that he is out of town and not available to return emails/pm's/phone calls. That, to me, shows a lack of integrity on your part. I doubt you would appreciate someone attacking your character and reputation while you were unable to defend yourself, and im sure skygear wouldn't appreciate that either. TW has grown into a large community, and as such we try to take care of each other, hence the large response to this thread, and im confident that if skygear was truly trying to rip anyone off, the Staff would have shut him down long before now. seeing as they haven't, and that they have chosen to let the TW Community stand up in his place, im confident that this entire issue is no more than some misunderstanding and lack of information on your part.

If you want more info go read his rtmr thread it is all in there. All I was pointing out was yes I was getting worried and sometimes stuff is out of our control. I knew nothing about wiring and skygear took my many phone calls on new years day with no questions. His build quality is top notch and to me would buy from him again no questions asked.

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
If you mail shit tons of wired boxes with address written in sharpie and packed with duck tape, especially international, Feds will be knocking on your door.

Keep in mind that HE came to ME when i tried to create a GB for just components finding my own sources for all components.

Also i was only ordering components. No assembly or custom wiring was ordered. Just parts.

if thats the case then why bother ordering one from him at all if you had the tools, time and skill to build the box yourself?

You guys that keep defending him and saying he's a stand up guy... For us that are pissed about this situation, its NOT about the wait or not having any patients like you all keep saying!! Its about fucking lying!!!!! Stand up guys don't give misleading info time after time, IF you even get a response. If I had been treated straight up I would have NEVER said anything on either threads! I feel I speak for several people on that subject. For nearly six months now I have seen/been told nearly every excuse possible. First it was he didn't have switch backs, then it was bad batch of wire, then it was he's on vacation let him get home, then it was he's out of relays, then it was lay off he's on his install trip. While all this was going on I've been told "its about to ship"or "has shipped" I understand life gets in the way!! But every time I have waited for sky to get a component or to get home, it doesn't matter, a new "issue" will arise that requires waiting on "something else" after a while you just lose faith.

All he ever has had to say was "I'm sorry for the wait I just don't have a lot of time to do this stuff, but don't worry I haven't forgotten about you." But apperantly its easier to not respond or say it should have shipped or its being readied for shipment.

That was my original intention. The only supplier i could come up with would only ship a minimum of 20 boxes as an initial order. That is why i tried to do a GB.

I had the same experience for 4 months. Your frustration is warranted. I was frustrated also.

However you have to see that he is eventually getting orders out to people and making good. It's already been established that his communication skills are severely lacking, needs help with systems and has taken on too much business at once.

That alone should prevent members from publicly shaming him and claiming that he's screwing people. He's not screwing people out of money or product. That's the point I'm trying to make.

Screwing people over is Elite Off Road (I haven't been in that thread in awhile but the dude took thousands of dollars and has never been heard from again on TW) or the guy who eventually got arrested for online scamming (see the sticky thread in this forum).

If you want to make a "beware of Skygear he doesn't communicate well" thread, by all means. But to make him out to be a crook, after only 40 days, is excessive.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on that, but again, just a bystander. I don't see where the OP claimed Skygear was screwing people or called him a crook, but simply stating that he, along with others, and yourself, have been fed lies and misinformation as to their order. If skygear does in fact do this as a hobby, with absolutely no intention to make a penny profit (which I doubt he does) he needs to advert it as such. People might have though different before ordering from him if he claimed 6 month lead times on all orders.

On that note comes the so called public shaming. I see it as a perfectly apt business review. I don't care if it's his hobby/sidejob/whatever, whether he's selling Lemonade on the street corner, or running Amazon, customer service is key. Repeatedly lying to multiple customers demands this so called public shaming. Hopefully some potentially interested parties now know better what they are in for.

TLDR: wonder how many bedracks BoxRocket could have sold if he kept taking orders even after he was unable to fulfill them.
