Bed lights?

    Does anyone have a recommendation for bed lights for my '13 Tacoma standard bed? It's about the only thing my F-150 has that I miss on my Tacoma. We often come home late and have to unload small items out of the bed in the dark. A set of lights would be most helpful.

    You can build your own if you have very basic knowledge of electrical and how to solder, $15 strip of LED's, some wire, switch, double sided tape or velcro. Tons of how to threads floating around with endless possibilities to add your own twist.

    Completed my install today using the below items.

    I used 18 gauge wire and connected to my auxiliary fuse block, recommend an inline fuse if you don't have an aftermarket fuse block yet.

    try using Toyota part # 00016-34089. They sell for about $65.00 for a set of two. We just sold one yesterday on a 2015 Tacoma PreRunner TRD that had them installed and they were pretty awesome.led bed light.jpg

    I used a few packs of those self adhesive LED strips you can get from Walmart and stuck them under the frame of my roll-up tonneau.

    Here is what they look like turned on, we didn't have another Tacoma on the lot with them at the moment. This is the same part number but installed on a Tundra XSP with the bed cover folder closed so you can see how bright they are during the day.

    2 pods with 9 leds per pod..... for 65 bucks.... or 12feet of LED's with an led per inch for < 15 bucks.... you do the math.

    You have a point, I just prefer factory stuff and it has a nice clean look and an easy install. Didn't say the other was a bad idea, it's just not for me

    My LED 5050s failed after less than 2 years. I am going with 2 Shoreline 8" submersibles. I have them hooked in to interior light circuit

    Not sure. They are the 16.5' waterproof roll they sell on Amazon and or Ebay for like $15. I mounted under the rails. Lights discolored from the sun fairly quick. I had to use double sided 3M tape. Adhesive that came with did not hold. The Shorelines will be much easier to replace if I need to.

    My fear with the 65.00 leds is shadowing.. what if you have some stuff right near the light? It wont illuminate the rest of the bed.

    I have the LED strips installed under the rails in my bed, 6 months later they work great (even through a MN winter). I did solder the connections and shrink tube them together at the corners, i didnt trust the chinsy jap connectors to hold up. And i did have to put a little gorilla glue on some spots that started to hang down too but that was my fault for not cleaning the surface well enough on install. I also have a Magnet Switch on the tailgate so the lights turn on automatically when i drop the gate, which is the BEST way to have these come on (kudos to another thread on here for that idea). I also put a toggle switch in line so i can turn them off if i want. I show this to my buds with factory lights on their new trucks and they're pretty jealous...
