Just got back from a 3000 mile trip to Colorado. MPG was between 20 and 24. I towed a small trailer and a Rancher. Truck and ATV performed great!

I've been averaging 25-26 this hot summer with lots of A/C usage. I find that the settings do matter quite a bit. I usually leave the temp setting at about halfway on cold. These past couple days its been so hot, the a/c was 1 or 2 clicks from max and where I used to get around 200 miles when the fuel gauge reads half way, this time i got around 160 miles. Cant wait for this summer to be over.

    see:
    http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/hotweather.shtml

the gov. claims at highway speeds it's actually more fuel efficient to have the windows up (reduces aerodynamic drag) and run the AC.

I agree. I've been commuting to Beverly Hills from the San Gabriel Valley, which is about 30 miles of stop and go traffic in the morning and on the way home. I usually try not to use the A/C in dense traffic, but its been too hot lately.

I would think that effect would depend on the aerodynamics of the vehicle, and possibly other variables. A couple of years ago Mythbusters did a test with two Ford SUVs and concluded the mileage was worse with AC.

FWIW my wife's Civic got a minimum of 43 mpg in all our driving (usually with open windows), except when the AC was on. Then it got the rated 36 mpg.

This is pointless unless you specify 4x2 or 4x4...

It's hard to justify the cost of a hybrid with that kind of MPG...

    That is exactly right !!!!
My 2 , 2 wd Toyota truck 4 cylinders were great on gas. It was not unusual to average 24 to 25 plus mpg on trips depending upon speed.. My standard 2.7 4 wd Tacoma standard was topping off at 2 to 3 mpg less at 21 to 23 max. Towing my small boats.....A little less.

2007 2.7 4x4 5sp Access cab - stock. Consistently get 24 mpg as long as I can stay off the interstate. Normal commute is 20 miles to a small town. The first 15 miles has two stop signs, so most of my drive is rural, 40 - 45 mph driving with few stops. I spend a lot of time in the sweet spot of high gear, low rpm. The higher rpm's required for highway driving noticeably decreases this. So does lots of 4wd driving over the farm like last week when I had the wife to bring it to me to pull my tractor out of a mud hole.

Typically get around 26mpg with 90%highway driving. Was about 24 before I put the aftermarket exhaust and bed cover on. Also did the secondary filter delete but didn't notice a difference

Around 90% city driving, more like 21 mpg. I hardly get better than 23. Stock tire but 1.5 lift in front.
