I recently went to the salvage yard and found two different styles of homelinks. I always thought these were wired into the vehicle computer. Never realized until I joined this forum that they were an individual component.

The rectangular one is from an AUDI and the other is from, well I don't remember. Not sure which one im gonna install yet.

I'm also thinking about installing it next to the cup holder that's closer to the arm rest.

I agree. However it won't work. Unless I do some wiring modifications. I guess Audi runs the module remotely.

i did this mod a while back by tapping into the overhead lights for constant power. has anyone else that has done this mod had any range issues? mine requires me to be almost on top of the gate to the complex and my front bumper dang near touching the garage before it will open.
i highly doubt its a power issue and am wondering if maybe i just got a bad unit. but if anyone else has had this issue or could shed some light on the situation please chime in.
    thanks

I believe, since the transmitter is now up in the roof of our trucks with this mod, the signal is getting blocked by the steel. I have the same problem - have to be within 20 feet to make it work.

well crap. there has to be a way to crack it open and solder a little wire and extend it out to the windshield or something to get better range somehow. its almost unbearable. and of course now the headliner is all cut up so there is no backing out now.

I had mine up in the sunglasses holder wired to the map light circuit and was getting about 40 ft range with the typical GM style homelink. About to move it down to the center console/shifter area so will see if range improves or not.

Just on that range issue note, I have to be within 10 feet of my garage door with my handheld remote before it opens. I have sound deadening throughout the truck including the roof. Anyone notice a drop in range after sound proofing?

So when I moved it down to center console area I get about the same range, roughly 40-50 ft or so. The OEM remote that goes with the model of garage door opener at my rental home is a laughable pile of shit and seldomly works past 15 ft.

Tail lights and interior lights so far but I'm looking to go LEDs all the way around. I like the hood light strip and I'm considering it.
Lucky you, they're going for $30+ now. Thanks for the idea and that other link though:thumbsup:
