Too lazy to scroll through all 44 pages, but does anyone know if the 15s are already treated? I just bought mine the other night and am worried now. Not sure if I should go get it ziebarted or not with just 300 miles on it.

Ok I'll take a stab at this - I'll give a very general response since all the info from Toyota and Dealers/ posters gets non specific - so please no Crap storm - but corrections appreciated if they have a reference to valid info.

Frame MFG Dana made crappy frames and was successfully sued by Toyota for a couple? hundred million. Toyota made a change to Quality checks and changed manufacturing site (Dana went bankrupt?).

Around 2010 Toyota made some frame changes - believed to be - Frame material composition (Steel) + process changes / final coatings. This is why the recall stops about 2009. Around 2013 I was told by my dealer that "additional" changes were made - and were increased " Frame material composition (Steel) + process changes / final coatings.

IMO , 2010 + should be better for corrosion resistance and 2014+ even better. But to my knowledge there is no heavy coatings on the frames.

Again, This is what I gleaned form the Forum and my dealers info.

Edit - They also added in the Frame Plugs somewhere around 2011 or so. My 2012 came with the plugs.

Could you post pictures of the contents of that kit as well? i.e. open with the parts laid out to see what all is in it?

    Thanks.

Or maybe the '10 + haven't rusted yet.
My "new" frame was put on last week, was made in Mexico, and look exactly the same as my rusted one.
I am going to spray the boxed section with fluid film, and install the plugs.
I would do the same if I had a '15.

Did it come with a manual that shows where they all go? Or is it matter of clipping it all onto wherever it can fit?

Do yourself a favor, and look up into the front cab mounts with a flashlight. You will see that they are open to the inside of the frame. It would be a good idea to close that off, since road sludge will otherwise shoot off the tires and right up into and through the frame.

If you look at the picture posted at #863, you can really see the relationship between the cab mount opening and the section where the worst rust happens.

if u do a search for the tsb manual, #173?, it will show u all the locations.
its the toyota manual for techs doing the spraying on frames.

I did the same to my 2012 which I bought new. Besides the Frame I used the small nozzle extensions/gun from FF and did up into every crevice I could get into underneath - Including the Bottom of the Doors, In the Rockers, door frame bottom sills, in the Rear Tailgate, etc. ...

I have the same Fix It. Its a great idea for all of us to do.
Did u ever think of wrapping the exhaust with cool it wrap, where the exhaust comes close to the frame (see post #863)?

That won't help, because heat is not the issue.

is it just dirt and salt getting into the holes?
dont u think heat is playing a factor also? since that is the primary spot most frames rust?

That is the primary spot, because that is the primary surface against which the sludge shoots in from the cab mount.

I believe that heat cycling definitely plays a part. In the same way that the dynamic stresses on the engine mount add to the rust problems at that point and increase the failure rate.
