This Weekends Project? Re-Gear!

These were waiting on my steps when I got home tonight. A pair of 4.56 Diffs with ARB lockers, and a compressor, for my 13' 6 Cyld Auto.


My truck:




Im loving the 255/85/16's. I'm NOT loving the lost power due to the 33's. Couple that with the added weight from the winch, tools, and the armor, and skids I have on the way... This re-gear is going to be very welcome.

I was playing around with where to mount the compressor tonight. I saw a thread on here somewhere where someone mounted it on the fuse box cover like so:


I also kicked around the idea of mounting it on the side of the AFE Air box:


I like the idea of putting it on the fuse box cover. Less likely to have to extend the wires. I'm putting all three switches under the blanks in the center under the radio.

Just did the same setup on my 15 and love the gears, compressor mounted just need to mount the switches in the cab what's your plans for your switches.

 

Looks good. Love the mount. Unfortunetly, my catch can is mounted right there.

Nothing fancy for the switches. I ordered ARB's three switch bracket. I'm going to mount it next to my brake controller in the center by the cup holders.

i found you don't have to remove the CV axle from the hub.... with some help you can pretty much pop the cv axle out once you have disconnected the hub/spindle from the lower control arm. I was careless when i did it the first time and messed my seal up... not fun

 

Yeah, I'm going to put the HD CVJ inner boot on the drivers side at the same time, so I'm just going to pull the axles. Thanks for the info though. Good to know!

Given the weight of the compressor and the amount it vibrates while running - I personally would strongly recommend against mounting it on the fuse box cover.

Hey thanks! Just in time too... I pried the drivers side out easily. The passenger side, not so much.

I used the pry bar and hammer method in that thread. Worked like a charm

Last time I did the slid hammer and hose clamp method. I didn't have a clamp big enough this time though. Didn't feel like running out to get one.

 

Can anyone tell me what kind of grease is on this hub seal?

Looking at doing this in the spring, man trans here so 4.10 with same size tires. Interested in reading about your experience.

 

I'd be interested in how much acceleration you recovered and what kind of mileage hit you took. Been thinking 4.56 and 32's when my truck becomes my weekend toy in a few years.

 

I'd just use mobile 1 synthetic or any type of wheel bearing grease.

 

If you don't mind, how much did the package run you?
