I went and bought a Ultra Gauge last night. I will be mounting a metal strip above the mirror and attaching it to that.

Thanks for the heads up on that option to those who suggested it.

Repeating jokker's question, does this gauge display ATF temp?

Can a ultragauge actually make adjustments to anything or is it just a watch dog?

Just a monitor for the most part. It can reset check engine lights (CEL) as well as notify you prior to actually popping a CEL.

So from my research it looks like the regular 'Ultraguage Plus' does not; however, the Ultraguage MX should be able to according to their website.

FWIW at this point.......I run ELM327 bluetooth obdii adapter connected to my note3 running torque app. $10 for adapter and $5 for the full blown app. The torque app does pause if you get call or text then resumes after fon call/txt is done.

Also for consideration are the ram mounts using a 1" ball motorcycle mount in the lower bolt hole of the grab rail on the windshield pillar. They has mounts for everything. I found mounts for fon, gopro, tomtom. The fon is a universal X grip thing. Keeps things right above AC vent and left corner of gauge pod. Handier spot that keeps eyes more towards road than looking up at ceiling above mirror.

    Here is ram mount thread...............

Here is pic of the xgrip folded out of way when not in use................

Does anyone use the Ultraguage Blue? Is it faster than the ELM stuff?

Not really, it's all the same hardware more or less with different packaging/design. It's really the software that differentiates these devices usually. I would just get the ELM if I were you.

According to Ultra-Gauges website they are the only place you can buy one from to keep costs lower.

    So http://www.ultra-gauge.com/ultragauge/

From what I have read rhe Tacoma does not have a way of measuring the tranny temp. So there is no way for the Ultra Guage to display it. I do not know this for fact, just what I have read. If the vehicle does moniter this info then the gauge can display it.

The ELM stuff sucks though because of the update lag...

Yep, you can read the ATF temp from OBDII over CAN. Some OBDII readers support CAN, some don't. I'm not sure all Tacoma's have a light for ATF temp on the dash, but all of them should have the sensor.

How bad is your update lag? My ELM is actually pretty quick.

Ultra Gauge MX - WILL read auto transmission temps. It must be user programmed, program instructions are on TW - do a search.

Like 3 seconds. It's a pretty cheap one though.

Oh, wow... I used to have a cheap eBay one, and it had maybe a half second delay. Was yours bluetooth or Wifi? I'm not sure that that matters, but I'm curious.
