I've been contemplating a muffler or catback upgrade. I haven't read of anyone doing this as of yet. What you think?

I'm thinking about going with an mbrp catback system. Kit runs a little under $400 bucks. Haven't heard the actual system on a 16' yet. However I've heard a 16' with a retro fitted 05-15 Tacoma. And it sounded good, didn't sound to ricey.

Also a Borla system out. FlowMaster has one too. Probably others as well.

I've got the MagnaFlow system myself and am happy with it.

Could grab a Tundra for that. I do miss the sound of mine ('09 5.7L). Fact is we have a 3.5L Toyota V6, and that's exactly what it sounds like for better or worse.

I'll be doing the Magnaflow in a couple of weeks. All the sound clips I have listened to have the mellow tone I'm looking for.

Just did the Magnaflow 19291. One hour easy install. Like the sound. Nice rumble at start up. No drone. No complaints. Got it for $508 with promo code at hottexhaust. There are some sound clips on Magnaflows site. image.jpgimage.jpg
There is a couple threads in this forum for exhaust There was a guy complaining about the flow master not fitting correct and having to send it back

^^^ that FTMFW - mine is awesome... a tad loud at times but that's all controllable with the RPMs. Stomp the gas = improved pedal response.

I just got one installed a couple weeks ago. I'm pretty sure its just a universal MagnaFlow Muffler. I just went to a local exhaust shop and asked for a MagnaFlow muffler installed, leave the stock exit and add a chrome tip.

So he just cut the stock can off added a magnaflow and I was gone. All in $170.

Just like ^ no drone, nice rumble on cold start, nice and deep under a load, and the radio drowns out the tone on the highway with ease. My 8 month old will sleep through it on a drive.

    I'm very happy.

I believe that is exactly what I'm going to do! Except I'm going use a Borla replacement muffler.

Upgrade your muffler and enjoy a nice fart sounding V6

These things sound horrible with exhaust, just like pretty much every V6 does.

But hey, if that's your thing and you enjoy the way it sounds, more power to you

It's obvious you haven't heard one with a Magnaflow... Mine has a nice low rumble no where near a fart sound. Sounds very very very close to a V8 with a Magnaflow on it. These companies well at least Magnaflow does actual "tuninig" of the exhaust so they don't sound the way you describe specifically.

Specifically the Magnaflow is the only one I have heard, and I personally think it sounds terrible. Then again, I've owned a few V8's with nice exhaust, and I've always hated the way V6 sound. Just not very pleasing to my ear.

Of course that's my opinion, and you know what they say about opinions ...

Had a magnaflow on my wrangler jk. Sounds similar, and it just sounds lame to me lol. Dont get me wrong it sounds good but it reminds me of a ricer. You got a badass truck with a little farty rumble.

Stilll waiting for the TRD cat back exhaust when the TRD Pro comes out in a few months. I just think it is better to stick with factory parts.

That's weird you describe it as a farty rumble.... Mine doesn't sound anything like a farty rumble... in fact when I'm beside a V8 with a Magnaflow they sound almost exactly the same - they are "in tune" with each other... The V6 Taco doesn't have a higher resonance. Pretty sure they "tune" them all to sound pretty similar if not the same.. sort of a "signature" sound from Magnaflow me thinks.

I put a MBRP setup for a 2nd gen on mine and now that's it's broken in I really like it - but I will probably be changing it at some point. The setup I used is a straight through design that dumps BEFORE the rear axle with a turn down. It's pretty loud but under moderate to heavy acceleration I can hear the flow of the exhaust gasses along with the actual sound. Think of it as like a wind noise but not a whistle. This might be exaggerated by the turn down but I don't care enough right now to mess with it. I've had this happen on other exhausts as well.

I thought the trd catback exhaust was a magnaflow with a trd logo on it.
