Loved it great post. It might be a tad too much for me to handle, perhaps i should just lie to the dealership when i hit 60k and tell them i towed a lot and have them change it? I wonder how much they would charge also... this is something i REALLY do want to have done so i have to think of something. (2011 taco here)

Gonna do this tomorrow and add an extra aux cooler so I'll have a total of 3. Ehh never mind just decided to replace the tow package cooler with a bigger cooler.

I did get a quote from my toyota dealership before and it would cost you around 279.99 + tax.

I was scared to do this... but followed fla_sun's use of the drill pump and Crom's location and it was fairly easy. SO happy I did it!!! Truck shifts so much smoother now. Give it a shot!!

That is a good pump, I use the same one. I can pump a gallon rally quickly with this.

While looking at the fill and drain thread https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/how-to-drain-refill-automatic-transmission.63851/page-36 today I ran across this. Just thought I'd post it on this thread.

The fluid adjustment is correct EXCEPT for 1 step, & the probably the most important. After correctly entering fluid temp detection mode, you need to remove the jumper wire from DLC3. If you don't the ECU will stay in base timing & not maintain the correct idle speed & ATF cooler flow to adjust the ATF level properly. The idle will fluctuate & cause the fluid level in the pan to go up & down incorrectly while you have the check plug out, you'll let out of much. You also must have all accessories off to reduce alternator load & to maintain exactly 800 rpm

Just use an IR gun. It's been shown to be just as accurate as techstream or sticking wires in OBDII socket. Just get a good quality IR gun. I have a Raytek MT6 and it has not let me down.

I flushed my trans fluid today
    Drained the pan
    Added 4 quarts
emptied 4 quarts through the trans cooler
    Added 4 more quarts
emptied 4 (At this point it started to run clear)
    added 2 more quarts
    emptied 2 quarts
    Added 4
Entered trans temp check mode and emptied 1/2 quart through the overflow plug.
Shifting is so much smoother, the 1 - 2 upshift was really harsh now it's like butter.
I highly recommend this pump from , don't buy the little bottle pumps, buy this, you can pump a gallon of fluid in under 2 minutes.
Here is a video of the first 4 quarts being drained from the trans cooler lines.

Oops. O well it can stay a little low. I can't see it being "too" low. My trans skid is a bitch getting on and off so it can stay like that till I get around to getting the skid off.

Alright I have finally acquired everything I need to do the flush. If the trucks been sitting for 3 hours has the coolant cooled off enough to do the flush. Mountain lion posted below 86°.

    Stock for now
Did this last weekend with drill pump and it only took about an hour to complete with a test drive. I used Amsoil ATF and my transmission shifts so smooth now it was a night and day difference. My truck has 58,000 miles now and was probably the original oil.

Alright I'm putting everything back together now and missed one step. On the transmission cooler there is a line on the far right that I believe is the hot line into the cooler. The other line is 2" to the left which I believe is the line back to the trasmission. Am I right 2012 off road

Did this today and it went without a hitch....except I ended up putting in about a quart more than I took out. This is the first time I have changed the fluid, doing it at 90,000 (I know, I know, but I took those Toyota guys at their word), and now I am concerned that I have been driving aroud a quart low for the last 90K. The fluid was dark red, but still see-through, I am going to send a sample to Blackstone to see what their thoughts are. The truck seems to shift much smoother now, not sure if that is just what I am looking for or if it is a real result of the flush. Thanks to @mountain lion for the post and tutorial!
