Some really great builds on here. I just picked up a camper shell today. I had the thought of doing a drawer platform yesterday and found this thread. @Tsinajinii and @1patriot4life love the pictures. I had thoughts of similar concepts, and your pictures helped me to actually see my thoughts clearer. I'm extremely stoked about this new project!!!! Thanks for sharing.

Started a fairly involed build on the truck with my dad, i did 6 weeks of living out of the truck with just 2 sheets of plywood and 2x6s across the bed. now i have a 27sq ft "home" haha.

Have more to do, on board water system, pump should be here wednesday, Fridge is going in the back seat, and a few other things to make it very liveable through winter in Leadville, Co. anything below 5* and ill shoot over to Alma and stay at a friends cabin ha

the drawer is only 4 ft and the back hatch is for "seasonal" storage.

everything is screwed together with pocket screws (kregg jig), and did a wood rail for the slide, with a bit of wood slide grease, i can push it out with 1 finger. the wood is covered with Helmsman indoor/outdoor sealer anywhere from 3 to 5 coats

I finished up my sleeping platform last week. 2 2x8s and I notched the corners to fit snug and 2 pieces of plywood and each piece got a shipping blanket and half a comforter and covered in some material the Gf picked up.

It's pretty comfy IMO but the gf won't sleep on it without an inflatable mattress. She thinks we're Glamping.

I had been working on my design for a while...and just got back about a week ago from a 5-week long road trip where it was tested out!

Here's a couple pics showing the design, removable portions, bed extension, tent, table setup, etc!

Here's the main portion of the platform in the bed:

Full platform with removable tailgate portion: (what's not pictured is the clasps I got to lock the tailgate portion in place. You fold it out, latch it in place and it doesn't move)

    Folding legs on tailgate portion:

One front component removed for cooler:

Behind the cooler there's a box that I custom made to fit the exact dimensions:

On to the right side: I made a 4 foot x 2 food table/storage component that acted as my full and complete camp kitchen:

In front of that I stored a water container and also had an ammo box (not pictured) that fit perfectly to the right of the water container:

Used a full-size memory foam mattress that folded up for storage:

Also made curtains from IKEA fabric and parts! All-in-all it worked out very well on my 5k mile road trip

What tent is that? And damn, Pliny!

I am driving up to Nor Cal for a festival in September. Gonna build a sleeping platform/drawer system before that, but need this type of tent, because all I got is a short box

Thanks man! I had a lot of struggles with figuring out exactly how to do that to maximize space and minimize weight...since there was only 9" of height to deal with and I also didn't want a 200+ pound table when loaded up. Originally I was going to do drawers in it, but I changed my mind for space and weight savings and just created the "cubbies" and the blue thing on the right has all of my cooking utensils, spices, plates, bags, supplies, etc.

Haha I was waiting to see if someone noticed that! Russian River Brewing happened to be one of my stops on the trip...so I picked up a case of Pliny :)

Here's the link to the tent on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/DAC-Mid-Size...qid=1467841696&sr=8-2&keywords=dac+truck+tent

I got the Mid-Size and it works just fine...it scrunches a little if you have a roof rack and stuff it between the bars...but if you don't it should be a better fit!

Here's a pic from the side:

A *case*? This is like catching a damn unicorn here. 1 bottle per customer, if you are lucky to find it!

I saw that tent before, just did not see many reviews. How is it holding up? How much use did you get out of it so far?

Well, after looking at this thread for a bunch of ideas. Here's my attempt which is not done yet.

    To Do list:
    • Add more roller bearings
    • Add another track as a guide, possibly
    • Route out handles
    • Redo the front of the drawer
    • Add dividers
    • Finish the floor
    • Attach the system to the bed floor via the anchors
    • Make another part that sits on top of the drawer to make the tailgate extension

Haha yeah they have plenty of it at the brewing company...their marketing strategy is genius...and fresh Pliny from the tap is pretty damn delicious.

The tent is holding up well so far...I've used it probably a total of 20 nights. The only thing I see potentially being an issue at this point is the part on the side where the blue meets the tan:

Because of the roof rack and stuffing it between the bars, it's creating extra stress at this point. While the stitching appears to be holding up and doing well, I can see it potentially coming apart at some point...and then at that point I'd just reinforce it with extra material or something.

Do any of you guys with a short box 2nd gen mind sharing your measurements or maybe even your plans, if you don't mind? I want to compare to what I have. I measured my bed just now, but I have a BedRug and and I am starting to think I will have to get rid of it, or ditch the BedRug sides and keep the bottom, because my dog hates the slippery composite the bed is made out of and wont jump onto the tailgate if its not carpeted.

I'll try and find my dimensions and post up tomorrow. I measured, and measured, and measured. Then I took off 3/16" from the width to allow for the carpeting which goes over the edges. You could reduce slightly more, but I wanted everything to be super tight. I have a lot more photos about the initial build here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/sleeper-platform-i-know-but-seeking-advice.428591/ (when I was seeking advice on how to do my drawer/table thing because of size and weight).

But yeah I have the papers laying around somewhere...I think I may have left them at work with the notes/dimensions.

By the way, if you do go a similar route with a fold-over thing on the tailgate like what I did, this is the latch I bought to "lock" the folding tailgate portion into place:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AUBUXEW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - use one on both sides.

Also, this bed fits perfectly width-wise, and you have a few inches to spare length-wise with the tailgate folded down:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00W67PAPK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
