    Ladies/Gents:

Any luck with finding an aftermarket replacement key fob for the 2016+ Tacoma? I understand it'll need dealer programming, but there's no way in hell I'm paying $500+ for a key fob.

Pro Tip - don't give your 2 year old keys to play with while driving - they'll throw them out the window and the truck will still drive!

    Thanks!

Anyone know what it takes to program a new fob? I've finally found one online and would prefer to avoid the dealer if possible. Thanks!

I recently bought a key fob on Amazon for my 2015 Tacoma. It said on the directions that the 2011+ models would need to be programmed at the dealership. The fob came with instructions...long story short, the key fob worked! I paid 19.99 for the replacement. It took me about 3 minutes to program.

Thanks for the input, brother. Alas, the 2015 uses a different fob (I had one and had to do the same thing you did!) - that method didn't work with the 3rd generation system...

Usually requires plugging into the OBD2 port with a programming computer. Locksmith shops that sell fobs have the computers they just need to have the updated software. Think the dealer is around $150 to program while locksmiths are around $75.

Thanks for the tips, gents... I'll post the results in the event anyone else loses a fob and needs a replacement.

I emailed the seller and he said he checked and made sure this one works with a push button start Tacoma. I ordered 1 just for a spare. Now i have to find a locksmith that can program it , none within 50 miles for sure . I bought a cable for tech stream , when I get it all I will see if I can do it myself .

It looks like people are having success doing this to the Lexus key card with the cable for techstream so I would think it should be OK for you too.

You may be able to make this unlock the doors, but this has no proximity sensor. I don't see how this will let you start the truck. Should be more like $350 at dealer to replace with the real deal. $150 for the fob, $100 for Laser cut key, and $50-100 programming.

Got my cable but the CD was toast. Does anyone have a link to the software along with the needed (64bit if possible) drivers and instructions? Has anyone had luck doing this on a Mac in a virtual machine?

I had just replaced my because I had lost one and it was going to cost me $169 for the fob and $90 to program it. I didn't think that was too bad. I have TRD Off Road Auto with push button start. That was just for the fob and not the key that was in with the fob.
