My daily driver used to be a 2001 F350 7.3L Diesel with the zf 6 speed manual tranny, manual transfer case, manual hubs, manual door locks, and windows. I hate putting so many commute miles on it so I have been looking for a run around commuter truck for quite awhile.
Well I finally found one in my price range yesterday. It came from an elderly gentleman's estate liquidation. I found it on CL and was lucky to be the first to call a couple minutes after the ad was posted.
Its a 2002 Rcab 2.4L manual tranny, door locks and windows. Its a base model but does have AC!
has 124K miles new clutch tires and battery. The owner was very particular about maintenance as well, has all the service records, and is 1 owner new off the lot in 2002.
    picked it up for 3k!

Right away I plan to tint the windows remove the camper shell and have a LineX sprayed in. It came with American Racing "Outlaw" wheels, I kind of like them so I will just keep them for now.
Only negative about the truck is the dog smell on the interior its not horrible, but still a problem. I shampooed the interior today and it helped alot. It sat under an oak and pine tree for about 7 months so was covered in heavy debris, even inside the engine bay.
I pressured washed and degreased the engine bay and took the center console out for cleaning as well.
Looking for any ideas, for a 2wd, since its a manual wouldnt mind adding some more HP. Im new to the toyota world. I have had my F350 Diesel since 2001.

toyotas are usually well used trucks so it can be a little hard. Most here in cali have no rust but are high mileage and rough bodies, sometimes smog passing issues as well, pretty strict smog here. I live in a county where one only smogs when transferring title, there is no bi annual smog like all the other counties

Any truck with a 60"x72" (give or take an inch) bed. I think all of the 1st gens that are single or extra cabs have the same size beds.

I think the guy who I bought mine from said that he had it on a Ranger.

got the camper off today, and all the pet smell is almost gone in the bench seat thanks to rug doctor platinum professional enzymatic cleaner and pet odor steam cleaner concentrate by bissell.
to clean the system the HVAC system I sprayed lysol through the intake with the recirculation off and ac on full blast. worked very well.
I will finish it off with a spray of ozium in the next couple days after the enzymatic cleaner has 24 hours to do its magic.

pretty basic boring stuff but changed spark plugs and new air filter, got some new floor mats as well. Will change fuel filter tomorrow looks to be under the intake manifold, not under the drivers side door:mad:............

Nice. I would have bought that for that price, and I don't need a vehicle.

There is no clearcoat on that model, so you can restore luster with a good cleaning, nanoskin autoscrub (instead of clay) a couple of polishes and wrap it up with some wax. I bet the white will pop nicely.

Consider www.monstaliner.com instead of linex. DIY with a very nice product.

For the interior, apple slices or actual lump charcoal under the seats will help absorb any residual oder the enzyme might not get.

Toyota sells an AC refresh kit, 00289-ACRKT. You can likely find similar online for less. But it works well.

Regardless of maintenance records, I'd be setting up to change all the fluids and do a full brake inspection/service/adjust, replacing parts if you find need.

And lose the bull bar. Someone will pay you for it, but it shouldn't be on your truck.

    Nice find!

I Am getting ready to try monstaliner on my lance camper, if it goes well i will use it on the bed too I think, called local linex and prices have gone up since i got my f350 done......same price to do the yota as it was to do my f350 with premium linex!
I will try the charcoal idea, thanks!
You are correct, I just did brakes today and all is good, pads have a lot of life left.
Probably do coolant flush soon as well, and a water pump.
Why dont you like my Bullbar!?!?!?!?! well I hate it too haha, it looks awful on a little 2wd. My wife thinks I should keep it for protection because we got rear ended last night!
Guy just slammed into me when the light turned green luckily I was rolling forward and first in line so I didnt rear end anyone else. luckily no damage, nothing bent, not even a scratch. he hit the hitch square, messed up the front of his mazda pretty good tho. Very strange gentleman, but he had insurance.

    OME and worth every penny.
That'll be a great little commuter. One of the few configurations that actually get pretty good mileage.
You can touch 30 mpg (or at least used to before ethanol) if driven like granny.

Welcome! I don't know why, but a white regular cab truck gives me a boner and it doesn't matter which brand. The 7.3L Powerstroke is very reliable. Few can say the same about the 6.0L, 6.4L or 6.7L. The 2.4L in your Tacoma may not seem like much in comparison, but it's one of the most durable engines ever made. It's also decently powerful for an I4.

Your fuel filter is indeed underneath the intake manifold. It's a bitch to get out but it can be relocated for easy replacement:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/diy-2-4l-2-7l-fuel-filter-relocation-mod.349406/

For an inexpensive slight HP and MPG increase, you can do what's called the "deckplate mod." Here is an excellent how-to: If you don't like the wiper fluid reservoir blocking your deckplate-modified airbox, it can be relocated:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/diy-wiper-fluid-reservoir-relocation-for-1st-gen-tacomas.441906/

The 1995.5-2004 Tacomas are very DIY-friendly. BTW, the push bar you took off will fit any 1995.5 through 2004 Tacoma.
