Hi All, I've been a 2016 Tacoma sport MT owner for just under 3000 miles and 6 months. Enjoying the heck out of it, one issue has developed in which the manual transmission shift knob is free to spin around. I did see one thread where someone had lowered their shift boot and swapped out their shift knob, wondering if anyone else has done the same recently and could share their thoughts?

I changed the shift knob to a modified baseball which let me put a jam nut on the bottom. Regarding the stock knob, locktite would work but may be hard to get off later. I would consider drill/tap with a set screw assuming there is a good place to put it

Thanks for the replies fellas. In my perfect world, I'd love to get the boot shortened and the stock shift knob on there such that it won't spin. Not interested in a short throw however. Admittedly I'm not handy enough to do this stuff on my own, but have a few good 4x4 shops and dealerships around town.

Un-screw the knob and throw some PTFE tape on there. It will tighten it up but not make it hard to remove.

Mine had a full rotation left on the knob to tighten it. Just twist the chrome ring just under the knob in the opposite direction as the knob itself. This will separate the boot and knob. Tighten the knob fully (hopefully it's oriented correctly - mine just barely was). Reattach the boot and you're good to go. If you're able to find a low profile jam nut that could work as well.

Omar, Using your suggestion worked thank you. Now I just need to figure out how to make the shift boot a much lower profile. Thanks everyone for the help, great forum!
