Absolutely not. I recommend people do not buy a 2017 either. The bugs are not worked out yet. I met with a veteran Toyota service tech, and he is very aware of the problems with the new design. He speculates the bugs will be corrected some time in 2018. The Tacoma is a very nicely featured truck, but the bugs need to be worked out.

Several people have asked me this question - I tell them all it's a great truck, but only buy one with the manual transmission!

I agree with you. the Chevy and GMC interiors look very dated. I ended up just trading in the Tacoma and got another Subaru. Nothing int he mid-size truck market right now that floats my boat.

Ask me again when i actually get some miles on my Tacoma 3rd gen ... i currently have just over 4k miles and so far i am happy and think i made the right choice. I have had zero issues so far and hope a year or two from now i can say i am still happy with it.
I suppose if you are having issues with your Tacoma then of course you're not going to be happy and probably say "NO" that you wouldn't buy one again

Haven't got mine yet, but they stood behind their product with the frame, bought my first truck $9k, Toyota bought it back for $13.5k, plus another grand off the next one. When it came time look for a new truck, I didn't think twice about getting another. Now seeing there are some issues for some has got me a little concerned. Key words, some issues for some, and a little concerned. I believe in Toyota, and the way I see it, I'm up in the game.

So ya, if I have issues with mine, it will go back and I will get another.

None... love her just the way she is.
I have had my 2017 DC OR for just over a month and it has performed flawlessly. My only gripe is that with the JBL system the back panels vibrate terribly so I have to add some felt or something between them and whoever thought they should put a bolt on the factory toneau cover should be slapped. I get the safety of it but why couldn't it have been a little hand tighten bolt...

    Otherwise, LOVE IT!

What are your top-five bugs that you absolutely can't live with? I'm asking because, as a first-time Toyota owner, I'm pretty happy with the 2017 model so far. Granted it's only been a week and the truck still loves me (it tells me this every time I depress the brake pedal) and things might change in the future, just like my marriage, but that's another story.

So what bugs are the most severe ones that affect all 3rd-gens equally?

Hello. My answer will not be direct, but I will do my best. First off, as a current owner, I can live with the bugs as I am patient and I trust Toyota to fix them. The Top 4 bugs, I see, are: Transmission issues, engine management needing refinement, attention to finish quality detail, possible rear axle issues.

The most severe bug that affects all 3rd gens equally is a poor valve body design on the 6 speed automatics in the 6 cylinders.

My recommendation to wait until 2018 is for people considering a purchase. By then, most of these bugs will be either fixed (in particular the major hardware), or near being fixed, and maybe just needing a software patch.

I've had my truck 6 months and although it's a nice truck I can't make myself like it. The truck just seems like a step back in what I'm use to. The doors sound hollow when you close them, when it rains I swear it sounds like there is no insulation over head, the wind noise is f'ing embarrassing when your on the highway, the passenger seat shakes violently when your going 70+ on the highway, the motor is sluggish until the transmission "decides" you really need to get going.

Unfortunately, for me I'm so upside-down that it would cost me a small fortune to get out of my mistake!

Oh well, sometimes you win...sometimes you loose...the 2016 Tacoma was definitely a bad move for me. Hell just typing this has depressed me for the rest of the day!!!

This is actually a great list of actual and serious problems. I have pretty much been reading about these in this forum, and I'll definitely keep these in mind. Thank you!

It does seem like these problems affect a small percentage of Tacoma's, though, so hopefully there will be better QA processes in the factories to catch these before the vehicles get shipped.

For me personally, the finish quality seems good enough. Certainly better than the other vehicle I was considering for purchase during this same time period. It might not be as plush as other vehicles, but for my purposes it is more than sufficient. The engine felt lacking in the low RPM but I understand it's just that the power band for this engine is higher. For me personally, it's just what it is, and the ECT button does change things enough for me to not be a problem. I will probably have to learn different habits when I off-road this thing.

What transmission issues will likely affect me considering that I'll be off-roading the truck in the future, say a year or so down the road? Anything that might leave me stranded?

Thanks for your comment to help a new owner out :)
