Front bumper camera?

The eBay camera works well. Been using for a few weeks now. Only comment is you need to use a few dabs of JB quik weld to hold in place as camera doesn't come with mounting hardware.

I bought the toyota emblem camera and used a 8 inch monitor in the cab. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY! Useless offroad. THe angle is super wide and makes everything look flat. Your perspective is screwed up and never once helped me over a crest or to place my tires. I was new to offroading and thought this could help.

Bring a buddy to work as a spotter or get out and look. This camera was a huge waste of money.

Now if I could mount a drone in the bed and fly in front of me on tricky sections......

 

i run two of these (used the rear cams as side cams) and just FYI there is a delay in the live feed, an entire second or so.

 

Good to know! thanks for the heads up. I'm actively looking for a front camera solution. I might get two cameras and mount them by the bumper mounts, aimed in front of each tire to help with tire placement. Do you think a different height perspective would help? or maybe a different type of camera in the same position?

 

There was one user that I met on reddit who mentioned having an LCD rear view mirror with 3 video inputs and he put a front facing, passenger side blind spot, and backwards facing roof cam on his. @Eden4x2 he said was his g/f's account that he also uses.

 

I agree! I did an experiment where I mounted a wifi enabled GoPro on the hood looking down (similar shot to what you get with the emblem camera). I used my phone as a monitor. I was shocked to discover it was WORTHLESS off road. I really thought it would be great, but the wide shot and top down angle sucked for giving any depth or any real feel for where my tires were going to end up.

The wifi GoPro method is pretty simple to try out if folks are curious.

I DO think the emblem camera would be useful for parking.

Based on another member here who is running it. It will be here next week.
Harness is plug ad play and allows for the camera to be activated via steering wheel controls.

i just did mine. Drilled a hole in the big license plate mount thing. It's pretty good. Can't see it unless you get on your hands and knees.

I used the vitmy harness and an Amazon camera.

Bought this one for the same reason a few days ago. Went wheeling and hated not being able to see over hills. Researching now to see the best way to hook it up.

Alright guys heres my story. I'm not 100% crazy off roader, GASP....i know. BUT I do carry my dogs around in the bed alot(in a crate thats tied down) and I'd like to have a camera on them(just because I can).

I bought the camera below and i'm planning on sticking it on top of the bed rail, just below the rear window(will attach it to the dog crate when i've got the pups on board).

Heres the question, where does the second camera plug in? Is it the only open plug on the back of my (NON-JBL) head unit? Obviously its not your standard RCA, but i'm just double checking that I understand it correctly. Also, i'm not super excited about spending $20 for a camera then nearly $100 for the harness, is there another way? I feel like it shouldn't be that expensive.

There is no direct output for a second camera on the deck as the harness creates that second output. So yes, you need the harness.

 

Got this installed today and it works. Will be nice to see obstacles while offroad.

On the head unit I have to select Source then AV Input. This was something I was not expecting. Then turn on/off the camera with the steering wheel controls. Once the AV source is selected no more music unit you reselect audio as the source. This was also something I was not expecting.

I don't see the plastic backing plate on the camera lasting to long. Will make a metal version at some point.
