Don't you get yelled at for making a mess. No matter how much I clean I can never pick up all the grounds. That's why I jus do K-cups now. I miss my French press.

I'm a coffee addict. I've got like 5 different brewing setups. Every coffee has it's preffered brewing method.

I'll never go back to that k-cup crap again. It takes away all the flavor. I get a monthly coffee subscription from Modern Times (brewery/roastery) and there's a new local roastery by me that I just tried. Got a bag that was roasted 5 days before I bought it. such good flavors

chemex is cool, hip even, but I am way too groggy in the morning to deal with that kinda stuff.

Our every-day coffee comes out of an Bonavita electric drip, the BV1900TS with the stainless thermos carafe... melitta #4 filters, I prefer the brown ones, and like to rinse them with warm/hot water before I put the coffee in the pot.

    Next_Gen_8%20cup[1].jpg

This makes 8 'cups' (about 4 mugs) of /excellent/ drip coffee that stays warm in the thermos carafe all morning. I fresh grind each time I make a pot, using a Capresso Infinity roller mill (cheapest mill that can reliably make great drip and passable espresso grind), set closer to 'fine' than 'medium', and use light to medium roast arabicas, mostly things like Kenya AA, Tanzania Peaberry, Ethiopian Harrar, Costa Rica Finca Rosa, etcetc, brewed fairly strong.... We get our beans from the local wholesale roaster ($12 per full pound, vs $18 per 12 oz at the boutique roasters). One of my standards for 'good' coffee is that it tastes as good cold or iced as it does hot and fresh. This meets that standard easily.

now, our Bonavita is the original, with a glass lined vacuum carafe, the newer ones have a stainless lined carafe, probably doesn't stay as hot as long, OTOH, its not as fragile. A mildly amusing aside, the carafe and filter are identical to a Melitta kit intended for hand pour, and the Melitta is also no longer available with a glass liner, they've all been stainless for the last few years).

The Bonavita gets the water to the right temperature for proper extraction, and has a 'showerhead' rather than a simple dribbler. When we got ours they'd just come out and were being compared favorably against the ridiculously expensive Technivorm Mochamaster coffee maker.

you have to understand, I grew up in San Francisco in the 1960s, and my parents were into fresh ground coffee beans from local roasters, made with the old ceramic Melitta hand pour pot. So when I was first exposed to typical american commercial coffee, I was aghast.

Hot damn, what a write up. I've heard good things about the bonavita dripper. If I were to buy a dripper, I would likely go that route. I as well always fresh grind my coffee before brewing. I use the Baratza Encore electric burr grinder (40 grind settings) and it amazing. I'm leaning towards buying one of those drippers now though, I've been so tired the last few mornings I haven't even made my coffee.

So you cold brew your coffee for iced coffee? I refuse to simply brew a cup of coffee and dump it over ice
