Depends on your detector brand for the plug. Two wires to the mirror will be the same. One ground. (black) One red. (hot / 12V) Crappy pic but you'll see the red wire plugging into existing wire "hole" just underneath it. Black does the same. Very easy.

I have a power requirement that is not met. I'm rigging up an inverter in the cab for usb and 120v power to solve it. Started already but waiting on a few parts. If anyone is curious how I'm rigging it up I can post a few pictures and details in the morning.

It would be awesome if they made one of these cables for the GoPro.

Powered my dash cam from the center console jack in the storage compartment between the seats. Pretty easy to do with a cord long enough to reach. Wire routed from console towards the front, up and over behind the glove box, up the A pillar, above the headliner and out to the camera mount completely tucked away and hidden.

That usb port is not for charging phones, it is for playing music off a usb stick. Yes some people are able to charge their phones off of it but that was not what it was intended for, it doesn't put out enough power for most phones.

This is true. My phone pops up a message complaining about using the wrong charger when I plug it in (Galaxy S5).

I use the Qi pad for my phone and have a dual USB charger inside the center console 12v outlet for other people to plug stuff in.

Mine charges but cant seem to keep up with my phone. Is this a toyota usb thing? Or should i ask dealer to check it. On a side not is there a way to test output on a usb with my multimeter?

Did you not read my post above? There is nothing wrong with the usb port, you are just using it wrong.

They do sell them now with a DC plug so yeah, as long as you get the correct plug at the dash cam end to fit your camera.
