Just got a torque wrench from my girlfriend for my birthday, and figured I'd straighten out my slightly misaligned bed. Tried searching and couldn't find it, anyone know the torque spec on the bolts for the bed? Trying to not just rely on the old 'gutentight'.

Also - did find folks saying the bed bolts are T55 torx, anyone find otherwise? Thanks!

I read that as the maximum torque that you can reasonably put on a T55 torx head before you start breaking things... hopefully Toyota isn't putting that much torque on the bed bolts o_0

Max torque is set by size and material of hardware so you don't break things. Just my quick Google search.

You could try tightening it it with the torque wrench . It will take a bunch of attempts at different torque setting until it tightens . But then you would have to believe it was torqued correctly by Toyota.

Edit , to clarify , before you loosen the bolt , try to tighten it with the torque wrench , if it clicks at 30 #', then try 35 ,40 etc. until it does not click and tightens a bit before clicking .

Bump to see if anyone else has an idea.
Could do that, will probably if I don't see anything better. Figure I'd do that for all 6 and see what they average out to.

Welp, with the exception of one bolt that tightened at 55 lb-ft, the rest all didn't tighten til right at 60 lb-ft, so I'm going with that number. Also, FINALLY got the bed straightened out. Pulling on the front of the bed (get your fingers in there behind the cab) seemed to work better than pushing on the other side to get it straightened out.

I am curious , did you have to have someone under the truck to hold a nut while you loosened or tightened from the top ? Are your tires now centered to the box from each side ?

Nuts are part of the frame:

And while it's not was I was centering to, the wheels do now appear to be centered. I was actually wanting more to get the front of the bed straight to the cab, the misalignment there bugged me every time I checked my mirrors.

I have searched through the FSM and I can not find anything to do with the truck box or bed let alone bolt torque specs.
Any Toyota Techs on TW that can help just for the sake of having an official answer?

I searched the tacoma maintenance manual and there is not a section specific to the box/bed bolts. However, they are the same diameter as the rear bumper bolts. When I recently installed a plate bumper, I recall the torque spec was 67 ft-lbf dry. I would reduce by 25% to 50 ft-lbf if lubricated with anti-seize paste.

2ng gen part PT278-35054 D-Ring Cargo Tie-Down comes with a information sheet that says to install that bolt to 23.5 lb ft (32 N-m) of torque.

That is a different bolt in the truck bed but gives some idea and at least answers the question for that bolt.
