In the end it was determined the switch is DOA in terms of lighting up. Returning it for replacement.

For now I have the HVAC plugged back in with no 4x4 switch for now, but have it in case I need it. The problem I am seeing now is my whole HVAC unit is really dim now. Not as right as before I hacked it all up. When I was testing the Helux switch with a battery I did test the HVAC and it lit up super bright so I know the LEDs are still in tact. Any thought was would be shorting the HVAC of its power. Seems as though its not getting enough juice. The dimmer works but again its light.

I have a 2015 Tacoma TRD and would like to add the light mod to my 4wd switch but would like to know if the 4Runner 4wd switch 84724-35020 & terminal leads 82998-12420 will work and are the best if not only way to go? I saw a post about a LED board but they guys says they will only fit 2005 -2011.

4 runner is plug and play but a bit ugly. The Helux switch and ring a member makes looks 1000x better. No way to mod the existing switch.

Negative. You either have to use the 4Runner switch or the Hilux switch previously mentioned.

I am getting ready to do this to my 2015 DCSB and was wondering why OP doesn't clearly say he used the lighted 4WD switch to replace the non lighted switch at the end. IOW, to make this mod make sense, we would have to cannibalize the lighted switch knob from the new 4 Runner switch and install it in the non lighted Tacoma switch receptacle after making the mods to the bulb housing and wiring. It's not clear from his OP if the original OEM knob is used or discarded. But it seems to make sense to me that the original knob is discarded and replaced with the 4 runner switch indicator.

The original is discarded and replaced with the 4runner switch. I have the 4runner switch and some wire leads to do this, but i sold my truck before i was able to install. PM me your info and i'll mail them to you for free.

    >>4 runner is plug and play but a bit ugly.

I successfully installed the 4 Runner switch in my USA 2015 DCSB today. It was plug and play. No mods were required to change from the OEM Tacoma non lighted switch to the 4 Runner lighted switch. The 4 Runner Switch just snapped into place perfectly. I did add the two wires to the OEM Tacoma 4WD switch harness (OEM on mine had 3 wires, after adding the two illum wires the connector was filled with 5 wires which is max) for the illumination power but was unable to find out which HVAC wires I was supposed to tap into. I would appreciate someone updating this thread with the correct power tap wires from the 2015 Tacoma HVAC switch to identify which of those wires provide the power to the 4 runner bulb.

Nice straight forward mod but looks much better with the black taco knob.

No. Only 2011.2-2015 can use the 4Runner plug&play, but still have to add wires for the light.

If you want to use the 4Runner switch on a pre 2011.2, see post #21.

To illuminate your stock switch, go back to post #1 or buy a DIY kit HERE.

DIY kit link did not work. I would like to do this on a 2007. I have already tapped the LED light section for 5 other switches. What year 4R switches can be cannibalized? What LED part numbers can be used in the new housing? Is there room in the stock plug to add two additional leads for a plug in?

Bumping a very old thread but just wanted to thank everyone who contributed to this thread. I was able to find a older T4R switch via eBay ($50) and bought the pins needed here (for the existing 4wd switch connector) via Eastern Beaver...The switch fits into the plastics for a 2015 (which I swapped into my 09) and illuminates now!

Probably not many folks fixing up/investing in '09 Taco's nowadays but I am until the market calms down.

Ok…so I did exactly what you did and everything lights up. However, a ball bearing fell out of my switch housing and I don’t know where it goes and my switch knob is looser than before. Also, when I put the truck onto 4wd low a chime keeps going off and doesn’t turn off unless I take it out of low. Also the circuit board has a red and white wire coming out of it, but you didn’t specify which wire goes to green and which wire goes to green striped. Baffled here. Help?

Did you shift into Neutral before switching to 4Lo? That chime means that you aren't in the selected mode, and usually means that you didn't shift to N before the switch.

My guess is that the switch is still functioning properly or it wouldn't know that you were in that mode.

Also, my switch hasn't illuminated in years. This was a wasted mod for me.
